Hello all.
I tried to fit a turbo to my OM 617 engine. It makes 6-7 Psi at 3500rpm, but when
So the problem is the truck stills weak
Maybe the engine is too old so can not make the power.I looked for all the threat of ''engine swap'', so for now i understand that the OM 617 was not desigh for a turbo.
I think it's better  to buy a another diesel from sedan car to swap.
So my friends from all the wordl pls give a good answer :
1-Can i rebuilt the Om 617 with new pistons, bearings, valves,camshaft,chain...................and modify the exhaust manifold, get turbo, do somethings with the pump . And get about 130-150 HP?Will the engine last for 100.000 km ?if i go this way, the problem is no one in our country can rebuilt of modify the injection Pump.I need to buy the another pump, maybe from the Om 602 ,anyone knows that will the 602's pump fit to 617?

2-By the Musso engine Om 602 and swap . Will my 711.200 gearbox fit OM 602?This engine in good condition can be found in Vietnam.

3-By the Om 603 Turbo from W124 and the 5sp MT 717 gearbox from some W201 or W124.This things can buy from Cambodia.
Do i need to modify the Oil pan?HowMany troubles will be from this swaping?

4-Anyone been in the Malaysia Rainforest Challenger?
how do you think if i bring G-wagen to this challenge? Its the same with Ladoga but more mud,the malaysia car all use the mechanical winch and light weight cars.

Sorry that so many question! But i am newbie in Gwagen, but i love it so much.

Thanks a lot !

Re: Diesel Engine to G460 300D

welcome to the forum !

best bet is fit a 602/605 td. pretty easy to fit  and should mate up with the original 5 speed box. i have just got a musso 2.9td  but the sump looks like it wont fit..but not a problem, 50 quid off ebay !

617 rebuild is not really worth the time or money....if it was in good order however maybe contacting mynadiesel, the pump specialist they could modify the pump to about 120 bhp, which would be nearly on par with the 617a. now thats a good engine....but very hard to come by !

Re: Diesel Engine to G460 300D

Thanks friends!
My problems also is the 4sp gearbox seems so slow.
Today i tried the G461 with Om602 turbo and 5sp gearbox, and i liked it.The car runs smooth and more faster than  my Om617 and 4sd box.
I am thinking of Om602 from Ssanyoung Musso and 5sp gearbox from E190.
Afer that i go to tune the pump and bigger turbo ( maybe Bi-turbo ) to get 160-170HP.
Gwagen always is very good offroad truck, not depend on wich engine or gearbox. So i think we better make it more onroad

@hus55: will the gearbox from W124 or W201 fit the Om602 correctly? The output shaft need to change? and the Cardan shaft need to be shorter?

Re: Diesel Engine to G460 300D

Thanks hus55
I just looked the Musso engine yesterday,it likes new, just shiped from Korea, with auto tranny. In Musso the gearbox comes with TC on the other side, so we can not use it in Gwagen

,
so in the future need flywheel and clutch( maybe from Sprinter Van W901 or i can use the Om617???)
So we have to do:
-Modify oil sump
-Make the engine support
-Find w124 tranny
-Built intercooler
-Oil pipes, air......
...
but it looks like a good plan
i use 32'' wheel ( 265-75-16) , do you think it will work good with 602+ 124 box?

And Hus55 pls tell me : Do i need to change all the Gearbox shifting parts ?
