Dealer Warranty - don't make me laugh.
Having just got my 'run around' delivered and filled out the various bits and bobs, I thought I would take a look a the Warranty that the dealer supplied.
What a joke they really are. I had said to the dealer that these were a waste of paper, and he agreed saying "to be honest mate, you've got more chance with the Sale of Goods Act - gives you 28 days"
Anyway, I had at least thought that if a major component blows, then the insurance would cover at least £1000 of repair - not exactly a lot, but it would help. But the small print says things like - "IMPORTANT - you are responsible for ensuring that your vehicle is maintained in accordance with Manufacturers recommendations.... you have 500 miles or 21 days to have the service completed,... all relevant service invoices must be retained... " and so on.
So despite having a Saab Service Book full of Saab stamps, with the last one being an Indie, I expect there to be enough wiggle room for this policy NEVER to pay, EVER. I don't have those services invoices/receipts etc.
So, as expected, this is worthless, and at least I know that from Day1 and not when(if) I had to claim.
Anyone had good/bad experience of similar policies. This one was from VGS based in Haddenham, Bucks.
btw - a useful link about the SoG Act relating to 2nd hand cars is here: http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/
Lastly - I am still looking for a nice Merc. Budget about £7k. Diesel, more that 4 cylinder preferred. Auto and with some spec. A C270 or C320 CDi, Saloon or Estate type of thing. Newer than 2002.
JD,
Interesting. When I brought my G from G Wagen in caversham, it came with a 9 month warrantee from VGS (four star). I did have to get a rear spring replaced at around month 8, took it into G wagen, all changed no charge.
With regard to the last 4 years servicing at MB Brooklands. Had an issue with a Sat Nav module, brought a new one that developed a fault, as it was under the 2 years parts and labor warrantee they change the whole unit no charge, no fuss replaced with brand new one.

So you're a Saab person too as well as a G owner?. Snap. Have a classic 900 convertible. Don't know if it iworth mentioning but the Saab Owners Clubt offer a lot of good benefits for old as well as new Saabs, so if the warranty is rubbish, try them to see if you can get any good deals. I'm not surprised you found it to be worthless.
Mine is a classic 16v turbo convertible and I love it. The new ones since General Motors I'm not sure about. Mine is GM free!!!
Whats a warranty?
its when, say..... an item bursts into flames and burns somthing (in your car). The nice people at the garage, say 'My, that should not happen, as we build cars that last and of quality' and then fix it free of charge.
Does that answer your question Mark?

LOL!, very good..:-)
Funnily the only car i've ever had new enough to have a warranty got nicked. lol
My first Saab - was running out of Merc models to try and couldn't afford the ones I had not :)
So far (2 days), not converted, but time will tell. Always loved the 900 Turbo and saw one for sale but went for reliability and sense in the end. I think they are OK value.
As for the Warranty - hopefully I will not have to invoke it, and if I do I expect nothing. Good to see Spider had a good experience with his though. I am thinking that the clause I quoted simply means that you cannot exceed the due servicing schedule by 500 miles or 21 days. Reasonable, but I still do no have the receipts for all the previous services, just the stamps in the Service Book.
