"If you intend deleting the cat you will need a letter from MB confirming the build date to show your MOT tester; I got a fancy letter with an embossed seal imprint for a fee of £25 "

I intend to go ahead and do  the above  but, had local exhaust guy telling me that - rule changes earlier this year - would not allow me to remove Cat. He said that if Car has previously had Cat and been tested with Cat then it cannot be removed.

From the info I found at VOSA on line- my 1993( built 1991) 300GE petrol should be given non-Cat test regardless of having a Cat or not. Therefor surely Cat Can be removed.

Can anybody give me a definitive answer to this..

Re: De-cat regulations!

My car passed the post 1992 test without a cat present, so for me it's not an issue for me either way; early w124 cars with the same 300e engine did not have a cat fitted the only confusion for the MOT tester is the reg date on your car, explain it was old stock and had no cat fitted. The letter from Merc establishes its date of manufacture. Its up to you, but if you are concerned fit a bolt on removable silencer box in place of the cat and change back at MOT time.

Re: De-cat regulations!

I'm just going to go ahead and remove it and maybe put  a bolt on box as you suggest  pr. The local guy was more intrested in telling me what he knew about regulations rather than listening to me and just doing what I was asking. The MOT wasn't his concern. Just didn't want to do it. There is a good Place called http://www.stainless-creations.com/. nearby which will do itno problem.

Thanks again pr.
