CRACKED WINDSCREEN

I've just cracked the windscreen on my 1991 300 GE and I've tried Autoglass and Addison Glass but I wanted to check if there was anywhere else I should try before committing? Only because I'm a little worried that as (I believe) it's the original windscreen, once the glass is out they might discover the seal needs replacing and I'd love to know how easy/difficult that would be to source.

Thanks for anyone's help in advance.

Interesting comment; I was not aware nor would I have ever imagined a local window company could temper glass and, or make laminated windscreens. I shall have to ring around in my area to see if this generally possible.

I'd advise reading the other linked thread above, and making sure your installer uses sealant as advised in the PDF document somewhere on the following link:

I bought a G many years ago that had just had a new windscreen fitted, and it had suffered from a water leak from an unknown source (I changed the wiper spindles and they were fine). In retrospect I suspect the windscreen fitter did not use any sealant when fitting the replacement windscreen.

Re: CRACKED WINDSCREEN

Get a new seal, stand over them and make sure they don't use any tools that could damage paintwork, you don't want any rust around there, you can also see if any rust around there and work out a treatment ( hopefully not)

Re: CRACKED WINDSCREEN

Autoglass did mine a few months ago but I do have to have it removed again and the slight rust in teh corners sorted and the new genuine MB seal fitted that Gav Helme sourced for me. I was really happy with the Autoglass chap who did the G but not at all happy with them when they did my Saab (they turned up with only half the bits and took two weeks to get the right ones)

Yes I think with AutoGlass it very much depends who you get. They did an excellent job on my SL.
