Re: change a 460 gearing

It is possible to change the ratios as you have mentioned but by 500 rpm remains to be studied by firstly learning your current axle ratio.

The idea is very expensive, a new crown wheel set is around £1300 each, second hand ones, (difficult to source in the UK; the Continent stands better chances but will not be easy).

I would have thought you could possibly achieve the same result by changing to a five speed box. The gear ratios will need checking to confirm this. (seconhand gearboxes circa £500 - £900)

Finally, going to larger rim tyres can contribute to ratioing, whatever path you choose, you will need to change the speedo gear ratio to re -calibrate the speedo readings.

A Happy and prosperous New year to you all.

Re: change a 460 gearing

it will be a no go to change my gear box due to my club foot
     i cant operate a clutch
and geting a set of 17inch hutchinson wheels would cost around 4000euro
so im sort of stuck with the crown & pinion idea
to change the speedo gearing is it as easy as changing the ally bit on the back
of the speedo from the G model the new crown & pinion came from
or is it a can of worms
      thanks adrian
