Hi everyone,

I'm a newbie to the GWOA. I own a 1986 300GD SWB which had spent the last 6 years of it's life parked in my driveway until just a few weeks ago when we finally took it down to our local garage to get tidied up and resprayed! A very exciting time!

So far I've managed to source most of the parts I need, however I was wondering whether anybody could offer some words of wisdom with regards to sourcing the insulation/lining that is found on the underside of the bonnet? Mercedes are quoting an extremely high price for what is effectively a piece of foam with cut outs, so being the DIY-er that I am would it be too presumptious to believe I could make this myself and if so where could I source the appropriate material?

All advice is most welcome!

Many thanks

Ayesha

Hi
Just notice yr post so guess you might be sorted. You might also want to look at these people.
http://www.noisekiller.co.uk/. My brother used their products on his SWB land rover and it worked. You might want to ensure under bonnet noise reduction is fireproof!

Re: Bonnet Insulation

we recently restored a 460 here in n cyprus and used the bonnet insulation from the 124 mercedes. ok it was 95% good fit but at the saving we made who was worried.....plus the fact that the isulation was oe mercedes which meant it met on regulations etc.

i would recommend browsing though ebay....i am sure there are lots on there.

Re: Bonnet Insulation

Thanks for the suggestions. Haven't sorted the insulation out yet but after your comments did look on ebay and found insulation suitable for a landrover. Its a 1.2 x 1.48m sheet. I'm assuming specs wise this should be ok?
