Back door hinges
Hi everybody,
a few days ago, i closed my door much stronger than usual because of a rain storm and since that event it will only open about 10 % compare to the normal opening... can somebody explain . Is it broken inside or just corrosion ? Any tricks ?
Thank you - Marc
Hi
could be the metal check strap located at the bottom of the door and attached to the sill in the corner below the bottom hinge has hopped out of the guide ..you may be able to open the door wide enough to remove the circlip / screw where it attaches to the sill and then open the door wide to investigate further
The hinges can stiffen making it difficult to open the door, but I presume your door is locking up and cannot physically open any more than it is. If that is the case, the only logical item I can think of is the check strap having any obstruction.
I would attempt to remove the door panel to try and see and work around this suspected obstruction.
If the door can open with force, without causing damage then, the hinges are seized, in which case try and spray some penetrating oil over time and frequently every few hours and work the door to-and-fro, to see if it frees up.
Cheers,
