Can anyone confirm the correct oils for a 2003 G500

transfer case

Front and rear axle

Engine

I've been quoted by the local mercedes garage (who do not specialise in G wagens!!) the following:

transfer case 75w to 90w atf

front and rear diff axle oil 85w to 90w atf

engine oil mobil 1- 5w 40w

Mercedes Benz technical are quoting:

'i can confirm that oils marked compatible with Mercedes-Benz oil sheet number 235.10 can be used for the front and rear axels and from oil sheet number 235.11 for the transfer box '

Can anyone recommend the best stuff from say Halfords and confirm that the above is correct.

Many thanks in advance

Achtung! Those are NOT ATFs (Automatic Transmission Fluids) but EP (Extreme Pressure) oils.

See attached for correct specifications.

Re: Axle and transfer case oils

The correct oil specification sheet for your axles is: 235.0.
Specification sheet 235.11 is correct for the transfer case.

Approved MB gear oils for 235.0 are here:

Approved MB gear oils for 235.11 are here:

http://bevo.mercedes-benz.com/bevolisten/235.11_en.html

Re: Axle and transfer case oils

Thanks Mortinson for the ATF correction.

Minuae are you absolutely sure regarding 235:0 rather than 235. 10 as 235.10 was quoted in an email by "mercedes customer service in Maastricht??

Re: Axle and transfer case oils

Yes, I am absolutley sure.

Go to:

http://bevo.mercedes-benz.com/bevolisten/bevo-sheets-sort1.html

Click on 231.1 and go to page 3. It lists the exact gear oils for the axles. You'll see that 235.0 is for the axles but 235.10 is for a manual transmission.

You need a 85W-90 or 90 oil from Sheet 235.0.
