Happy Christmas to you all. My 1991 463 petrol automatic has began stalling when I come to a stop. Could anybody please advise me what to check for?
Many thanks
Grant

Re: Automatic keeps stalling

Firstly, check the distributor cap and rotor condition, these need changing around 70,000 miles intervals, next fuel filter, air filter.

If these are OK, check for false air leaks, clean the auxiliary air valve (brake and clutch cleaner).

Problem persisting, suspect fuel pump relay and, or fuel pump connections, and I would not dismiss the throttle valve body.  This part needs the fuel metering head lifting off to get to the throttle valve body. Before you get to that stage of prognoses, I expect you to PM me for more info.  Coolant temperature sensors can play a part in the the idle runing of the vehicle as could the oxygen sensor, but things start getting technical here so for the moment check the basics and report back.

I recommend members use fuel injector cleaners at least twice a year to a full tank of fuel.  This applies to Petrol and Diesel users; the additives are different for each type of fuel.

Effectively, the idle speed is too low at the time of slowing, hence the stalling.

Keep us informed,

Check and clean earth wires maybe worth a shot!
