Are G prices increasing??
there are 24 G' for sale on Auto Trader at the moment --most with high asking prices....is this an indication of "feeling the waters" to try and determine a "true" value or a sign that oil prices are forcing owners into reluctant sales!! Now 25 !!
some interesting price tags out there, this one for instance though there has been money spent on it
I noticed high G and Defender prices. Are the high price ones Diesel or LPG? If you need (or want) a 4x4 then economy is not the main consideration! Quality is?
What about this one

It appears there is alot of G's coming up for sale. A few factors:
1 New ones... never available before.
2 LHD... people buying new RHD selling old LHD
3 Some crazy priced 460 and 463's been on for ages makes people thinking of selling put theirs on at speculative prices when seeing the prices others advertise for
4 Fuel prices and economy, sometimes toys just have to go.
5 None that are up for sale are really worth buying at there asking price so will stay for sale longer.
There are a lot of traders out there who will come around and 'tire kick' then will offer a silly price. For example;
I have a G500, full MBservice history. Initially I was asking around the 35K mark, however at that price they were offering between 27-28K. Was tempted, then saw one that was brought for 27K re advertised at 34K!
So now I have dropped to 30K the same traders are in offering 22-24K. So I got a friend to call up saying he was interested and the cheeky so and so said he could get one for 32-33K!
I can say its a killer on the 'go-go juice' BP on the M4 1.48 per ltr. but taking it off road last Sunday, I say it is still a superior vehicle compared to what is out there.
as an aside - what would a similar aged Range rover/LC be?

There seems to be much less Private Selling going on in general. Nowadays it is always dealers/traders on eBay, Autotrader, PistonHeads, vcars etc.
I recently had our CLK320 written off and am looking for a replacement, having increased the insurance offer slightly. Sure I can get the same year car for the money, but I have the hassle of finding one which is not a liability and off course I want some 'come-back' in the event of any major faults - hence the question- are the deal warranties worth the paper they are written on?
However, as a dealer its not all easy street - they have huge inventory and high risks. They need to cover £1000 per sale I reckon just to cover the overheads. The temptation to cut corners and paint over stuff is increasing. Buyer beware is definitely the case.
I'd like a newer shape CLK, but the sensible side of me says I should get a diesel C-Class estate!! Petrol price is definitely a reason why big 4x4s are on the market.
As long as my trusty 230GES 460 keeps rolling I am going to use it more for a while and save the pennies. I'd love a G500, but...
