Accelerator Cable
For some reason my accelerator cable just poppped off the lever it attaches to, is there something on the end of this it fits into the square hole on the lever to secure the cable!
Hello johnnytheboy,
What vehicle are you talking of? And, where along the cable has it dettached? I am guessing, in the engine compartment and it is the outter cable?
Cheers,
If it's the 300GE petrol, once had the same happen on the way to my first GWOA AGM! (I'm assuming you're talking about the end on the engine, not at the pedal).
There is a small plastic bit that holds it in, when this perishes, your cable comes off and you lose throttle. Fixed it temporarily with a cable tie and got a new cable. Our GWOA Technical rep assured me the plastic part used to be available individually but we could not locate the part number.
Now only avaiable from MB as a complete assembly ***quote the chassis number when ordering
No need for new cable. I've been running with two cable ties for the last three years without problems. Don't know what shape the missing piece of palstic is but if the metal plate is secured as shown in the two photos it all works perfectly.
IN REPLY TO THREAD NO:4 (consur):
Looking at the Cross Country inventory, the clip at the end of your adapted, throttle cable is not shown, however, in some parallel thinking; I have checked W202 and W124 chassis, employing the M103 engine.
Assuming, the brackets are the same and with a similar looking throttle end, logical thinking dictates, the clip should be the same too. That, being the case, the clip's part numbers on both chassis come up as being,
A 2023010093. If you want to take a gamble at your expense, give it a try, but before to committing to buy the clip; provided the dealer has the item in stock, he should not object, to sale or return policy.
This clip secures onto the inner cable. The clip wanted by the original enquirer, 'johnnytheboy' is I think, for the outer cable, these are prone to breaking up, as they become brittle with age. These, were definitely available years' ago but no longer. M/Benz can sell the throttle cable at £27.00, the price at that time, so why should they stock an item costing pennies, at the expense of more expensive stock which will not sell against a cheaper, repair solution? So, what do M/Benz do? Do away with the cheaper stock and push the costlier item; its Business, a profitable one at that! (my opinion).
Cheers,
Thanks Rakesh. If someone could post a picture of what the set up should be like, i.e. including the missing bit of plastic then that would be a bonus. The purpose of the plastic is only to prevent the metal plate rotating into a position where the slot in the plate lines up with the slot in the static post, because when that happens the inner cable can pop out. The cable ties only prevent rotation of the plate and don't take any load.
Sorry it took so long, but got there in the end, this cable was purchased new from a dealer in 2006 I think.
Hi All
A202 301 00 93 is the part number for the small rectangular clip / grommet that fits on the end of the throttle cable to retain it in the bracket with the slot and rectangular hole in it.
Shown in the first picture just posted, the clip is shown on the end of the cable in his fingers and the bracket just to the left of the lower finger!
Hope this helps
Where were you in 2006! Thanks a mill...another mystery solved.
Thanks for the part number and photos - very helpful. The Mystery is almost solved but not entirely, because I don't see the metal C shaped ring on M's photo that is on my G. If it's not an orginal part then it must have been put there by a garage at some stage to compensate for the missing plastic rectangular plug. I will obtain the plug and do it properly.
Have obtained the plastic plug - see photos. However the parts department says this is known to fail regularly on several models that it is also used on apart from the G. The integrity of the C shape depends on a piece of plastic 2 x 2 mm in cross section, which with repeated loading, the heat of the engine, and age becomes brittle, breaks and then the two halves fall out. Personally I am going to stick with my metal plate and cable ties - likely to be much more reliable in the long run than this piece of dodgy plastic.
Hi
No worries
Your choice!!!
Can't remember from memory how much they are but i asaume a few quid. Most people that have experienced a breakage before simply bought two and carried a spare!!! Or carry spare cable ties, at least you know how to fix it!!
Gav
And finally the last word on this subject - don't forget the old trick of a bra fastener cut off and secured with the hooks and eyes around the cable beyond the bracket is an emergency solution although not available to all of us (hope you are paying attention Audiominx).
