Hi guys, been searching for a while but can't seem to find what I'm after. Can anyone pls just break down the mpg for the 230, 280 and 300GD model. I'm trying to work out if it's worth me buying a swb 3.0 diesel (460 model). Ta

 Hi Tee,

Given Diesel prices are higher than Petrol prices, there is not much left to consider.

230GE should give you 18-22 mpg.
280GE should return 12-18 mpg.
300GD should return around 22- 24 mpg.

Performance of a 300GD is slower than the 230GE. If you have the budget go for a W463 - 300GD instead. Performance is much better but as good as the W463 -300GE. And more comfy.

Avoid a four speed manual in a W460- 300GD - very sluggish, five speed is marginally better for top end touring speed.

You can run the 5 cylinder diesel on vegetable oil or even red if you are a farmer. The 300gd w463 is also a slug but not as slow as the earlier car. I get 19/20 mpg on my w463 ge300 petrol swb manual, more on a run. The ge230 is the best w460 compromise but it only came as a swb in RHD

Running your diesel G on red will give you a huge fine or a short prison sentence - so my farming friends tell
me.

Vegitable oil is a great alternative and I think our technical rep (as allways) is spot on with his advice.

My 230 GES 18 - 20 mpg have seen 24mpg on a continental trip.

In defense of the G-Wagen, I would go further to qualify Fredecosse's remark. True as he put it; I would say any make of 4X4 is expensive to run. The running cost is not unique to the G-Wagen alone.

I have links with Lithuania, met a guy who was running a G 300 diesel with an Lpg conversion designed for diesel !

Farmers can and do use their vehicle for short distances on the public highway, some mischievous folk also run their diesels on heating oil or a mixture thereof. I am not advocating this nor do I drive a diesel, but it does happen

To second Rakesh, neither of my "Lexi", a GS430 and an RX300 (4x4) consume much less than my GES300.
