Hello Chaps
I was wondering if anyone could shed light on the current situation of the stripe method used on official Mercedes Benz springs used for the G. I have been reading on the benzworld forum and have looked at all the spring rate charts and have decided to do a small upgrade from green to yellow springs as my current ones have broke. It also reads on the German version of chart that they use a stripe method on the springs and that the charts are based on the two stripe springs. Apparently the difference between each stripe is about 120 Kg and that for 1 stripe you put 60 on the end of the part code, then 61 for two and 62 for three stripes. It gets weird when I talked to MB UK, they say that the springs have been standardised yet when I received the springs one had one yellow stripe on and the other had two, hmm I thought, standardised ehh, balls :x . Funny thing was that they only had one yellow spring in the UK in stock, strange I thought when springs are supposed to be replaced in pairs, you woud have thought they would have at least an even number in stock, weird :? . Can anyone shed any light on the situation, tempted just to take them back and get springs from elsewhere. Thanks for your time.

Ade.

Ade,
Seems to me you're getting some of what I've been getting... miserable parts service when it comes to G's...
If I was you, I'd take them back and tell them not to be so incompetent as to sell you two different springs for one axle just because they're stuck with them in the UK! Parts advisor at my local main dealer tried to pull the wool over me eyes in a similar way. Soon sent an e-mail to Stuttgart and asked if I could order some parts as my local main dealer(name quoted) was unwilling and incompetent to help. Phone call and letter of apology of the local dealer soon followed with correct parts plus 10% discount. :D
I'll check my EPC over the next day or two and see if I can find some part no's for you.
On the other hand, as long as you go with a name like bilstein, koni or eibach you should get the same or better quality...

I must correct myself on the difference betwen each stripe on the a spring, its around 130lbs not 120Kg, sorry for the error.

Thanks for the info Werner, you wouldn't be able to tell me the e-mail address you used to contact mercedes.

I have an EPC and have checked that the part code is correct, mercedes Uk don't dispute that, they dispute the striping system used, even though there is a different number of stripes on each spring they have given me....

I will look into other spring makers for the G, cheers.
