Why I need a G
Taken from "home" side today - depth probably only about 20 inches but flowing pretty fast so didn't fancy wading out to double check..
The other side is where everything else is (including the VW estate that's been sitting there for 3 hours hoping level will subside before dinner time).
Hi Mark.... attached is a vid showing how important effective door seals are in a G Wagen....when it goes swimming!!
Hi Mate... I suspect he has had wet feet previously!!
my manual describes the fording depth of my 1990 W460 as 600 mm (24") however I have as yet not been swimming... you can increase the fording depth with a snorkel on your air intake and even an axle lift and i believe there is something you can do with your exhaust... my door seals are going to be replaced soon... as they are very tired...im sure they would leak if i forded before i change them..
Im sure there are members on here who have driven through a lot of water who will give you good/better advice... but according you my handbook... 20 inches is entirely possible... as long as the ground under the water is not too soft... and that you approach with diff locks on and in low range... but as i have never done it... i bow to other members experience!!
done this a few times, but i waded to this depth a few years back. Just managing to keep the water under the air intake on the side. I basically use the rubber strip around the car a a guide, though I would not do it today, as I need to change the seals. Any one know if the new type fit on the older 463's?

Hi John,
Is that why he drove with one side out of the water - so it would drain on exit. Or is that best practice when going through standing water?
Mind you, either side of the concreate section of road below my flood is likely to get any vehicle at least axle deep in very very soft ground.
