With other 4x4 vehicles available why would anyone get a G-Wagen? There is a clue on p.114 of LRO, February 2016 issue. (I was supposed to be shopping when I paused to browse the magazine rack in a well known supermarket. Don't worry - I did go on to do my bit to fill their coffers.).

Re: Why get a G?
Spoiler alert. It's a neat little snippet in an article in a popular 4x4 magazine explaining what prompted the British services to move away from the home grown product and rely on Graz's finest behind "friendly" lines during the Cold War. It is well worth standing at the magazine rack and thumbing through to p.114 of February's LRO next time you're topping up on vittels. You might even put the magazine in the trolley; it is a consistently interesting and entertaining read.
