Hi All I have finally got my hands on a alloy spare for my 1985 SWB and after fitting a BF Goodridge AT tyre find, which I sort of expected - that it won't go on the back door as the old steel one did (which weighed a hell of a lot more :-)). I expected the bolt length to be an issue, but given my alloys (G wagon OEM but or the non arched version I think) fit with a 30mm spacer it has to be one of these for the spare... So my question is is the right carrier a completely different part? Thanks in advance Simon

Re: wheel carrier 460 SWB

Just in case anyone picks up on this...... All sorted thanks to Guido, a man who can get just about anything (as can our Gav of course - new) for a G.

What was the outcome?  new carrier or spacer ?  or longer studs?

Hi good to know, can you post a pic of it when it arrives, do you have the part number?

Re: wheel carrier 460 SWB
Hi to both. The answer is a new part which is original Merc OEM (or in this case from Guido a good reconditioned part). It is already in transit via DeutschePost so when it arrives I will post the part number and a quick pic. There are others supplied on German EBay which are aftermarket fabricated jobs, but I usually go to Guido for any expensive/unusual parts I don't need new, so I dropped him the link to the fabricated ones and he came up with the OEM one at the same price. Ta Simon Ps just need a set of locking Alloy wheel bolts now - Gordon :-))

Re: wheel carrier 460 SWB
Just found the link Guido sent for his OEM bracket: http://www.ebay.de/itm/MERCEDES-G-GE-GD-RESERVERADTRAGER-SPARE-WHEEL-CAR... And here is the one I found that is the fabricated one: http://www.ebay.de/itm/Reserveradhalter-Ersatzradhalter-Vollverzinkt-Mer... Just by way of FYI. My original carrier has 'rubbed' the paint on the back door leaving a rust mark. So might be worth an occasional check if you have one on. Luckily it seems like the rubbing has stripped the paint from the carrier, but not the door (I had it reprinted in about 2 tons of truck paint :-)) so the mark will polish out. Ta Simon

Simon - I just bought the same wheel carrier on route from Deutschland so looking for a set of wheel studs for the alloys. What size did you get on yours ?

Cheers

Derek

Hi By coincidence Gav has just tried to get hold of me with the info - it's not straightforward - they are M14 x 1.5mm but it's the cone shape you need to get right. I'll let you know what Gav comes up with. Simon

Re: wheel carrier 460 SWB

Hi Gordon

The reason for checking is that I am taking the opportunity to put some locking ones on to all my wheels, and the first set I got that are listed as being the correct ones from McGuard part No. 27209SUB bottom out before securing the wheels - Thread shaft length is about 45mm.

Current wheel bolts are about 30mm and have about 6-7mm of that in to the 30mm spacers I have on my hubs. But as you know (but for the benefit of those as technical as me :-)) thread length is only part of the equation as you need the right shoulder profile - assuming your already on the M14 x 1.5mm page.

Gav is on the case.
