Good night everyone!

I am willing to change all oils on my 1993 G 350GD. As I understand there are only 3 to be changed, is this correct? What oil type do you recommend me?:

- Engine: 10W40 Total Quartz, Castrol Magnatec or Shell Helix? 8.5 litres

- Transmission: G3 Valvoline Max Life? 7 litres

- Gear Box: 80W90 Valvoline? 2.8 litres

Thank you very much again!

I use:

Engine oil: Mobil-1 0W-40 or  50:50 mix with 10W-60.     (a good 10W40 will be fine)

auto transmission: Fuchs SL5000.     (original MB spec is Dexron II type)

rear and Front differential: Castrol Syntrans 75W-90 Gl4/5.    (original MB spec is EP 90W oil)

Transfer case Castrol Syntrans (Max or Multivehicle) 75W-80 GL4 (must NOT be a GL5 oil)

Don't forget also

  • Power steering oil (same as auto transmission oil)
  • Brake fluid (DOT 4)
  • Grease for front axle swivel housings
  • Grease prop-shaft joints
  • Coolant/antifreeze for engine
  • Brake fluid for differential locks and
  • fluid for clutch (manual transmission)

Use this

http://applications.castrol.com/oilselector/en_gb/search?vehicleType=cars

Enter you vehicle make, model etc: Mercedes >> G Class >> 350GD

this will give you all the capacities, except for the differentials, which require 3 litres for front and rear.

I don't know whether you have a manual or automatic transmission, but if automatic, you will also require a new filter element and new gasket for the pan.

If you have a manual transmission, you may need to check the sticker on it to see whether it requires gear oil or ATF.

If you are changing all the fluids, don't forget the engine coolant. You will require about 5 litres of MB approved antifreeze concentrate to dilute to a 50:50 mix.
