I have developed a wet floor on driver side at about the same time that the rear washer ceased functioning, before I start ripping up carpets would anyone know where the washer pipe runs thru the cabin?

Heater air intake?

Greeney:

Check the bottom of the heater air intake (that big square box that sits at the centre-rear of the engine bay). It must have a hole at the bottom surrounded by a rubber plug. Often the box gets full of leaves (specially in Autumn) that prevent the hole to drain the rainwater. The water then ingresses the interior. Just guessing...

leak

we "think" we have found the problem, the rubber seal around the door joins in a silly place, half way up the doorframe rather than on the sill, we have supaglued it and crimped it onto the metalwork tighter so as soon as it rains here in Cornwall we shall find out, I plan to replace all the doorseals soon, any cheap suppliers?

Door sel leak

Try a small strip of black tank tape over the join. pull the seal ends away from body work
put strip of tape on body work sticky side out, push seal ends back on ,pull tape over stick and trim.
Also a good tip if going wading.

Wet centre console

Yes as previous member stated. blocked air intake box to heater. Hose pipe, short steps, kneeling pad, and rubber gloves required, dont park under trees in autumn, always check after off roading.

HI FELLOW PADLERS
I HAVE SEEN THIS A FEW TIMES IT ALSO HAPPENED TO ME IN MY 460 AND THE MOST POPULAR PROBLEMS SEEMS TO BE FRONT SCREEN SEAL THIS IS MORE COMMON THAN THAN THE BLOCKED DRAIN IN THE HEATER INTAKE BUT ONLY JUST, IF IT IS THE DRAIN HOLE THAT IS BLOCKED THEN DONT PUT IT OFF DO IT NOW AS I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE QUITE A FEW HEATOR BLOWER MOTORS FOR CUSTOMERS DUE TO WATER DAMAGE TO THE BRUSHES WHICH ARE NOT AVAILABLE BUT THE MOTORS ARE THE SAME AS 308D VAN

moving jackuzzi

Have 1989 300GD since May, early enquiries to vendor elicted response that "you must have left the window down a bit" Hmmm.
Having ignored the inevitable for as long as poss I was compelled to act when the expanding puddle took in rear carpet.
Net result was (i) grommet missing in base of battery tray
(ii) weep at wiring loom between engine bay and cabin( in vicinity ofwipermotor )
(iii )knackered wiper spindles --- as expected -- thanks Rust Bucket
(iv)BUT mostly due to perished/split rubber drain tubes from bottom of blower unit
AND seal incomplete between air intake box, bulkhead & blower unit --- prob due to inept repair /replacment of blower unit --- have sealed with propriarity silicon/mastic product from building trade , weel see how it goes.
And 1984 SWB is as dry as snuff!!

Re: WET FLOOR!!

I have the same problem that I am dealing with at the moment, given the sheer quantity of water coming into the footwells and central console I didnt believe it was the wiper spindles until I was lying (in a puddle) in the footwell and a friend with a bottle of water was gently pouring it over the spindles, it was like niagara falls in there. It appears that rain collects in the dimple below the wiper spindle and simply pours in from there.

The quick fix is to simply pack the top of the spindles under the covers with vaseline until the correct parts come from Merc.
