Well I'm a Confirmed 606 Addict
I can't post photo here but if you're interested take a look on clubgwagen. For all the perfectionists out there don't be too sneary yes I know it's turbo less and the cone air filter is horrid but as I say that will come.
I'll run it as is through to the spring to iron out any big issues.
First one being sorting out either my messing up the wiring or I have wiring loom problem with the glow plug circuit. It keeps blowing the 10amp fuse on the over voltage relay.
Plus maybe a fuel starvation problem. On full throttle it looses power.
I'm still working on the resonance valves as well.
The difference is amazing between this and the very tired 603. Despite my comments above it's perfectly usable and the power is adequate but as someone once said adequate is never enough so I think I will fit a turbo. A friend has a 1999 E Class for sale at £300......
Russ. Did you adjust the pump or just swap straight over? Mine starts running funny at high revs also but only with boost. Did you play with the Alda? D
606 Gs have to be driven to appreciate how night and day the difference is. Even Spider (a confirmed V8/G500 owner) was surprised when he drove mine at the AGM. And i's not about the power, or fuel consumption over petrol models, it's the smooth easy delivery which makes a G606 a real pleasure to drive.

If you are considering doing the conversion or having it done for you, don't be tempted to cut corners, particularly with the injection pump, the injection pump is central to getting the job right. Do every step of the conversion the best way possible and you'll end up with a G that's a pleasure to own.

6 cylinders [even diesel] will always be smoother than a bent 8
I think you'll be needing a test driver who also has no clue?

Surprised it actually went! LOL
Joking apart, having driven a few of these oil burners and the 300 petrol's, I have to say that the pick up, and kick down are very impressive. Tanking around in G restorations and Axel's you will not be disappointed in how smooth the engine is, esp when it has a good exhaust connection ( listening to the one Axel has done, very very nice sound). Though I am a committed V8/500 fan, and still believe that there is nothing better that down right displacement, 8 cylinders, etc etc. the 606 conversions, when done properly are a very good choice and mate to the G's
It is also nice to see Russ280 back on the forum

sounds great

Not yet but I've researched that so I will be adjusting it in due course.
But until I sort out the wiring and apparent fuel starvation I don't want to alter multiple things and therefore confuse the issue. Because of course I don't really know what the hell I'm doing
As long as you keep it in the "sweet spot" it really is a great drive already.
