hello all
yeasterday was a bitter sweet day after years of looking i managed to get my hands on a G wagon 1988 300GD, all seemed in good order right price full mot . o joy o joy.
i look at the dash of me new pride and joy and see she needs a drink feeding time me thinks and off we go to the nearest pit stop.
i will fill her up i then notice that theres desal all over the floor i pay tell the nice lady behind the counter and ride off into the sun set.
on arriveing home i drop the tank to see that the exhast bracket at the rear has snaped and burned a hole in the tank .
my question is wear is the best place to obtain a tank and rear exhust section .
cheers

I'm afraid to break the news for you, twodogs but plastic tanks are scarce as hen's teeth due to the fact that they were only fitted to the very few latest 460 series Gs sold in the UK, apart from obviously all of the 463 series, which are extremely rare to be broken for spares....

So it's either a new one or...... try Dronsfields. They were the only ones breaking a 463 that I know of and perhaps they still have the fuel tank and perhaps it fits you car, though I am not sure.

Good luck

plastic surgeon required

Now before you scoff hear me out, if the plastic fuel tank is holed and its made from the same stuff they make bumper with why not speak to one of the many mobile bumper repairers that abound nowadays, if they can "weld" bumpers they should be able to mend plastic fuel tanks, just a thought.

That's a perfectly good idea. If you degrease it properly there is no reason why it can't be repaired. Get yourself an old electric soldering iron and practice until you get it right. If you don't fancy tackling it yourself then do as Rog says and call in a professional.
