Dear Members

I have a 1983 460 280GE

Around a year ago I decided that I would start a dedicated owners club on facebook for G owners world wide .

We have nearly 2000 members in the club now and we are growing daily. We have members from all over the world with every kind of G imaginable.

Facebook has its negative aspects but it is when you connect passionate G owners together from around the world there is an instant respect and trust that just shines through.

Join us on facebook and keep in touch and up to date with your G experiences and share some photos

Just search in facebook for ' Mercedes G Wagon Owners World Club'

Look forward to seeing you all there and please post photos from GWOA meetings we would love to see them.

 All the best

Michael Rose

Re: We all love the GWOA

Hi Michael, nice to see you here.

Yes the Facebook page is excellent, I am on it and others every day.

This site is well worth the annual £25 sub. For example today I needed some W461 info and where did I find it? In the Members section here, as a downloadable PDF.

That said, a Facebook member is also scanning further info for me and emailing it tomorrow.

The best of both worlds!

Eddie.

 noangry cant do Facebook

some years back i had collected some parking tickets

when i returned to the UK after a year the silly sods

had taken me to court loads of times ( BIG BILL)

made contact with them as my G is registered disabled

   all tickets canceled laugh

if i used Facebook the summonses can be posted  ( classed as received)

RE gabby  hardwick solicitors set a president

and i would have had to fly back from SE ASIA

Farce book is just naff.  You can't make threads like on these forums, and attaching documents isn't easy either.

Plus it's just naff.  I'll be sticking to this forum.

LOL!

I've just never got on with farcebook. The wife uses it, and when I look at it (and a couple of the other off road forums I use have gone to FB to save money on hosting servers) it just looks a mess, and seems impossible to have separate threads.

proper forums like this layout are far better IMO.

All good publicity for the G.

Forums can't do what FB does, FB can't do what forums do.

Wish it was as easy to load pictures here as it is on FB, but then you can't have a long topic on FB, or you tend not to.

BTW, I hope you have a link to the GWOA. :)

Re: We all love the GWOA

Both this forum and Facebook serve me well.

The GWOA does not need to migrate to Facebook or even have a page there, all things "G" are already catered for there. This forum needs to stay as it is. Some cross fertilization from Facebook and other forums is healthy and should be encouraged.

Personally I find it very easy to post photos, videos and documents to Facebook, a lot easier than it is here.

Re: We all love the GWOA

I don't go near Facebook as I try to have as little personal information on the net about me as possible. Long story but I had an online stalker who turned up at my work in London from NZ which is just weird.

However when I had my crash at the beginning of 2012, my £25 GWOA subs effectively paid dividends for all the fantastic help and advice i got.

I think FB is a useful tool if managed properly but I have no desire or need to go near it.

My husband is on it so I will get him to look up the G site so I can be nosey!

GWOA looks perfect to me.  Facebook is for attention seeking teenagers.

I think it would be nice if we all wrote letters to each other or at least sent a postcard  smiley.

Cool. Being 51 and being branded an "attention seeking teenager" sound like a compliment to me! wink

'You have to love G owners'

We just hit 2000 members yesterday which is an astounding achievement.

The GWOA is awesome there is no getting away from it and not everybody gets on with Facebook, this is certainly true.

My facebook club is free from arguments or disagreements because it is fueled by passion for the G in all its entirety.

In a year we have accumulated 4000+ images and files easily uploaded too.

The GWOA and facebook can exist quite happily side by side benefiting all users.

Thanks everyone

Re: We all love the GWOA

Thanks to the new members for your support.

The GWOA is a fabulous place to hang out, It needs to be said that I am not here to steal members as my facebook club is 'free' so anyone can participate.

I am simply adding a new dimension to our shared Passion and love of all things G related.

There is no competition between facebook as a platform or a website because it's obvious which is the better out the two but we have a 24-7 live feed and simple integration across the world that is not available on any other platform.

We have a real community of owners who are happy to use this closed group to upload video of them enjoying there G off road and also sharing restoration pics, or just plain showing off. all is welcome.

We have a 0 tolerance for any racial Cultural or religious prejudices. We have no negative members or feeds it's a place for passionate G owners not a lynch mob lol so be brave and come and join us see what it's all about !

All the positive comments are very well appreciated on this feed so thanks and also thanks to the members who have joined us from here too.
