When I had this (seemingly very common) problem, Arnie sent me a really helpful "idiots guide" pdf of a solution to one of the possible causes.

I'm pleased to report that a link to this pdf has now been posted on the site http://www.gwoa.co.uk/content/technical-how

I can definitely recommend it.

Does anyone else have similar tips/cures for common G problems that could be stored in the same location as, I for one, find it quite taxing searching through loads and loads of old posts to try and get to what I am looking for?

Currently the fan on my early 463 SWB RHD only wants to work on speeds 2 and 4. I've replaced the switch but with no effect.

The resistor next to the fan motor needs to be replaced, it has two coils, one of which isn't making contact.  heater out to get to it unfortunately.

Most likely your resistor pack is inside the heater motor as Gordon says. Some have resistor pack under the bonnet. If inside the heater, means massive strip down to get to. At least a days work, though appreciate heater is a noisy thing on speed no4
