Hi guys, After a long search I've finally found and purchased a LWB 87 W460.

I know this topic has probably been asked 1000 times but I'm looking to facelift the G to a W463 face. I

know it will need the grill, the more square shaped headlight surrounds and the little fillet prices that wrap around under the headlight surrounds to the front of the wheel arches which square up the front wing. Also wheel arches and bumpers but might try for AMG style.

Are these a direct replacement or will they fit?

Will i need to replace the two front wings also?

I've also spotted an AMG kit on eBay arches and front and back bumpers with the headlight surrounds and grill (not sure if those fillet pieces that go under the headlight are included) will this fit a W460? It does list its for a W463 again are the mounting points the same?

Finally does anyone know where to buy a reasonably priced conversion kit or the parts to do this?

Kind regards.

Why do you wish to do this to a 460? They are great and iconic as they are.

But if you must...

You will not need to replace the front wings. Note that most ebay kits are reproductions and of poor quality, so beware. You will find used and almost new  original parts listed on ebay from time-to-time, particularly on ebay Germany. Someone on here (Mr Cox) may be able to source new parts for you directly from the factory at a good price compared to UK dealer prices. Many people (probably with more money than sense) are 'upgrading' (spoiling) new Gs to Brabus versions and consequently, removed parts (bumpers, arches, grilles, interiors)  often end up on German ebay .

Don't do it, w460 updates don't sell well, anyone who has done their homework will know that an older model has been tarted up to look like something it isn't and could hide a considerable number of bodges. Concentrate on resolving the issues that can arise such as rusty rear wheel arches rusty fuel tanks and leaking wipers, spend your money on making these go away b4 wasting money. These cars are expensive to run as they are without gilding the Lilly

To retain or even increase the value of your 460 G originality in my view is everything - excepting perhaps a 606 transplant.

As everyone else has said don't do it !!

If you really want a 463 spend some time restoring your 460 keeping it as original as possible, then sell it. It is an appreciating classic  and good ones can easily reach the value of a 463.

I'm in the do it camp, providing you do the whole job including both bumpers and genuine arches, Annie is right the cheap kits on eBay are best avoided, especially the G63 kits the don't even look right on the factory Gs

And you'll need some factory wheels as well to finish the job

Gordon

Mine's in the photo it has 16" asteroths and BFG ATs in the photo which I stick on for events but it normally wears 18" factory wheels and Yokies

I'm with prwales !

A W460 is a W460 ! And it's handsome as it is ! W463's are also handsome ! G63's are superb but there is only one way to get a G63 and that is to buy a G63

brabus G63's are stunning but only Brabus make them and if it a Brabus you want then a Brabus you must buy !

Pouring perfume on a pig don't work !!!

It's his car let him do what he wants.

Also residuals are better for facelifted cars than standard original cars, speaking from real world experience.

I know of a bloke who sold a Black lwb 460 to a bloke in  Bradford with 22'' Amir khans and got top top money for it. In fact I was speechless when he told me what he sold it for surprise

Well, Brabus is obviously selling plenty of conversion kits and the AMG styling is equally sought after, so it must be attractive to some.

I also suspect that some buyers are more after the style than anything else and consequently probably don't do their homework.

The G has become a fashion accessory for those with money and fame and consequently others want to imitate the same style.

I have now seen quite a few G300 converted to G63 lookalikes, even with the expense of all-original parts. I would not have seen the sense in that but I guess they must be selling, to some people at least.

Unfortunately you're correct, they are a fashion accessory. Even factory original Brabus / AMG ones look horrific and are a complete joke, well bad / poor taste jokes.

So a tarted up 460 is the worst of the worst. Lip stick on a pig and all that.

I guess the "fashion" bubble must burst soon.

So there will be some cheap G Wagens around. The Japanese imports have already started that trend.
Is that good or bad for those of us who know what a G Wagen is. It's qualities and it's short comings?

Re: W460 - W463 Facelift

Looking at the sales figures the AMGs target the US/ Middle Eastern market; the 2017 model (we have heard nothing about that for a while) will target these markets as well;  in my opinion that leads to two conclusions:

a) whoever "upgrades" a 460 to G63 will be busy to upgrade to the new look;

b) all Gs up to the year 2000 will be classic cars: clean lines, solid mechanics, form follows function; the jury is out how the 2001 - 2016 models will be viewed.

Re: W460 - W463 Facelift

Each to their own and a fool and their money springs to mind.

Of course G Wagens aren't the only vehicles to attract this stuff.

I've always been baffled at people who throw money at a car and end up with a worse performing product than the original.

Maybe its a classic, but that is time limited by the age of the punters. The odd exception being say E Type jags or the odd Ferrari maybe.
"Classic" cars are on a roll at the moment. As the saying goes once the wagon train has been spotted it's too late.

The current factory bling versions and the ridiculous "up graded" Frankenstein monsters will further devalue the marque.

Yep agreed. Leave the 460 be. Get a 463 if you want a 463 and dont go overboard trying to make it look like a G60 whatever.

Frankly bodykits can be removed for less than they cost to put on. I have a 460 that i've modernised visually, no bodykit, just grill and lights. If you keep the parts you can resell without issue.
