I have major corrosion around my sunroof. This has left a big hole behind the actual sunroof where previously duct tape was put around the seal to stop a leak which actualy held the water in. I have removed the headling and in my opinion from what i can see the rust and corrosion is so bad i m reluctantly going to have to remove the sunroof and look at blanking the hole. I would have to get this done profesionaly. My documents show this was instaled by Wood and Picket and i am gutted that it is in such a bad state. They call it a moon roof. It seems a shame to have to remove part of the history however i supose i am restoring it to original spec if it is welded up as i dont think sunroofs were a factory option in 1983 ?

Re: W460 Sunroof removal

No "factory" 460 sunroof at all as far as I am aware

Think there was a dealer fitted option in period if a little later

There is a full 463 SWB roof for sale on FB with sunroof hole and sunroof plate but the guy wants £1500 or so I think

Not sure if yours is long or short WB but the 460/463 roofs are the same in essence bar the sunroof

Not sure if it comes with headliner or motor and drive etc

I have a SWB motor and drive here from a 463

Probably no use anyway if you're going for originality...

Re: W460 Sunroof removal

Thanks Gav yes i have seen that i think the black one. Will see what the body shop say as to blanking i know this is not easy but i would like to try and keep it as original as possible as everything else is. I have a short wheel base. The headliner was heavily cut away so only the front and back remain of the original. So looks like a complete new one will be required. I think the orignal bar across the middle has been removed just to add to the fun. Its going to be a big job for the boddy shop as front wings have holes under the headlamps, sills have rusted out rear quarrters  and under rear door along with bottoms of doors which i think are repairable. All the usual places.

If this lot does not break the bank il need to add up the petrol tanks which have rusted out, straps, tank guard etc. I also know there was a miss fire on the engine which is the least of my worrys but needs sorting. I can then go on to the driver seat repair along with anything else thats uncovered on the way. Time to get some quotes.
