I'm trying to replace the sealing strips, or at least to start with, take the windows apart to assess the condition of them.

Is it possible to remove the sliding panel from the frame without taking the whole frame and fixed window out of the car?

I slid the top seal forward, I thought then I could lift the sliding panel up off the bottom track and swing the bottom out clear of the frame, but I was still about 3mm short.

Is there a trick i'm missing?

Thanks,

Ben.

Re: W460 rear sliding window disassembly

I did a forum search and this is the best I could come up with:-

Hi the cover slides upwards..to replace felt channels and draught excluders the window assembly has to be removed from the vehicle....held in place with a profiled rubber seal it is easy to remove but requires a cord laid in the groove of the seal to pull the rubber into the metal surround when re installing.....you can remove a section of the metal window frame to permit you to remove the glass and replace the channels/excluders...some windscreen installer specialists have the right profile channel ..(expensive from MB)

Thanks Bigblock..

I did try the search, but wasn't as successful (or observant?) as you.

Sounds like I basically can't take them apart in situ then. I guess that will have to wait until I really have to remove them then - I've never had much luck with reinstalling these windows held in with the rubber profile, though the ones I have struggled with in the past have always been curved windows rather than flat.

I ordered some 'universal' rubber window channel from Woolies trim, which is of similar dimensions to the original, i'm hoping that with enough lube, I can slide this in place along the top, horizontal track, with the window half open, then the vertical should be easy.

The felt strip in between the fixed and sliding pane will have to wait...
