Has anyone here ever deleted the cats on a 163 V8?

Want/need to get rid of the heat they generate and just wondered if it's a case of a full ECU chiptune to delete it, or if you can do it with a modified MAF, aka M111 kompressor? Or nothing and just mount the sensors in the new (open) pipe?

Depending upon vehicle manufacturing date; KATs' may or may not be part of the MOT test. I do not know off hand what that date is. Hence, it could be possible you can not remove the KAT.

To address the heat aspect, have some thin metal shielding fabricated to allow for an air intake to flow over the KAT allowing for cooling to take effect. And don't park in fields with tall grass; fires have resulted as a result.

Good to see your badging issue has been sorted out.

Re: V8 Cat delete?

The requirement of it being there is pretty much historical. New rules have recently been introduced. Actual emission levels are far more important. My 97 230K rat has passed it's MOT for the last 3 years without a cat in sight. "Tampered" with the MAF to adjust values and couple of other little things. Now a genuine 157mph beast. Embarrassed a few very expensive things in the past.

But that's not why I'm doing it on the ML. The heat issue, even with shields is too much of a risk. As a principle, I don't like big chunks of metal glowing red hot under my ass. And besides, need the space for long range fuel tanks and storage units.

So not really a question IF they are coming out, but by what process.

New rules have recently been introduced.

Which made it a very grey area - depending on who you talk to, everyone has their own interpretation.

Hijacking my own thread here smiley
