WARNING: There is a grave risk that we may soon lose access to all unsurfaced highways. It appears that the Government's "knee-jerk" reaction to those who are vociferously against off-road enthusiasts enjoying the countryside in their 4x4s, is to place a blanket ban on such activities.

EDM 380 (Early Day Motion 380) is a parliamentary device aimed at removing
our rights to drive responsibly and legally on unsurfaced Rights of Way.

An 'e-petition' is a democratic device whereby YOUR voice may be heard.

Anybody interested can now sign an e-petition against EDM380.

It is to be found at: http://www.saveourbyways.org.uk

Please, use this opportunity to have your say. Go to the above website and register your protest. It may well be the only way we will even get a hearing.

Just to let you all know that I have circulated this to all the 216 GWOA members that I have in my e-mailing list for them to join the petition. Cheers

Well yet another example of this Government pandering to the vociferous few at the cost of the silent minority (especially if they are the rural unwashed). Hopefully the worm will turn!

Can’t say I’m in to green laning but signed the petition based on the above anyway. ENOUGH!

By the way just sent off my application to the National Lottery for funding to enable me to tour my homeland for the next 12 months. Am quite hopeful, I am uninspired in my job and am an ethnic minority. £53K should just about do it.

All of us signed that E petition Jesus - -thanks for the email!

Those of us who remember the last Labour government will recall the constant over legislation that brought many businesses to their knees. That includes my fathers three generation old instrument making factory in 1979.

Nothing has changed with them. Its always the bad guys who win, you cant protect your own property, you pay more tax than any other country, burglars and rapists have more rights than law abiding people, dole cheats and mindless thugs get handed houses which they wreck and get given another one. Imigrants get benefits we dont! etc etc.

And our reward for suffering all this mindless legisaltion - more tax - usually disguised in some form or other so they can deny its a tax.

I'd better shut up or I'll get it in the neck for speaking out.

John,

You have missed the point, you drive a car...............no worse an off roader. So you must be.
a. rich. so your wealth should be be re distibuted via tax.
b. a criminal. so your wealth should be be re distibuted via fines. :( or
c. you're not a criminal so easy to get money off you. :D

Oh and you are a self confessed envirmental distaster area.

And if I don't get that Lottery funding I'm going to the Court of Human rights. I am an artist after all, and I need the money to express myself to my full potential!

Oooooohhh, Russ280 comes out of the woodwork!

Perhaps I'm not green..., but I'm not quite a disaster area. I'm a member of several bodies including Conservation Societies. My garden is also a veritable bird sanctuary.

But I do love kicking up the clarts from a good burn out - after all I am married and have to take it out on something. (note please I said clarts not shit ...oops).

Can we trust Tommy the gun Rustie?

Huh! "Highway robbery" by Government to the size of a grub's " nuts" in fourteen posts with a couple of red herrings on the way!

Is that a record, I wonder?

You don't have to be mad to be here, but I guess it kinda helps! :D

See, thats what us brits are good for, talking and moaning about it but doing nothing about it.

If any ones interested in blocking all roads so everyone has to go down a byway then please sign on the dotted line.

Sad but true this country is carsie, filth and litter every where yet we have the most concentrated billionaires per head in the world. Thats why I'm of to Canada in 2 years.

I could tell you a story about the time gypsies tried to steal my G 3 times and the letter I wrote to the police, apparently I was being racist to a ethnic minority. even though they commit 75% of vehicle crime in our area.

See yer.

Good move chaps... keep signing away. The more sigs keeping vital green lanes a public by-way the better. I can then buy up adjacent land for much-needed rural 'Executive Housing' with guaranteed access routes for all those 5-series BMs.

Lovely

It'll only be pretend "executive housing" then if they drive 5 series BM's? For pretend executives I guess.

If they’ve really made it they will need a Volvo X90. X5's are SOOO passé.

so called "greenlaning" cf "joyriding"

As a first generation landowner ie ground purchased as a direct result of both of us working two jobs ( all employment PAYE ) so all taxes paid and living like church mice for twenty years and not driving uneconomic 4WDrives rather one ordinary car shared at some inconvience : I'm with Govt on this one only ( frothing at the mouth in respect of all their activities esp " right to roam" but WE have to stand the insurance claims ( aint legal aid wonderful )

Anyway having bought and read various 4by4 mags , their are lot of pillocks out there with too much money and oversized egos looking to tramp over other peoples private property , how about if I went and parked in their front/back garden , had a noisy picnic
and then departed leaving only fumes, wheel ruts, aggrevation and rubbish behind.
Re the rubbish I & wife have lifted skiploads and I mean skiploads in the last 8 years. So have a wee peek at situation from landowners( not all herditary nobs/snobs) perspective

Fair enough, no doubt some users of these right of ways aren't as responsible as they should be, but they make up a small percentage. These are historic rights of way, and rights of way they should remain. Education is the way, not banning.

BOATS

Thanks Mark , I'll not argue with you re education vis a vis banning, but again govt sees a blanket ban as the preferred solution to any issue ie Dunblane and fox hunting but then what can one expect since discrimination became a negative quality.I had better stick to "G"matters and drop the politics methinks.
