Hi there. Hope every one had a good new year celebration :) I had planned on fitting LED JW speaker headlights to my new to me 463 as had a set spare. Im now selling them though as they don't have the built in sidelight. I then looked at the Mercedes projector lights and the after-market versions, does anybody do ones for RHD cars though? If not ill buy another set of speaker or Nolden ones but with sidelights and try to sort out a mount for them. Ideally though if anyone knew a supplier for the RHD projector type as fitted to the modern versions it would be great. Thanks

Re: Upgrading headlights
Hi Tom, I don't really know what I'm talking about (but am in the process of changing one of my headlamp units as the glass is cracked). Will the new units ou're considering work with the hydraulic (if that's the correct term) levelling system though? Or doesn't that matter to you?

Re: Upgrading headlights
I think the projector-lens types are Xenon gas discharge types. However, there is a newer halogen type with clear lens that is an improvement for about £200 a pair. I'm sure Gavin can provide you with all the part numbers and details, but you may find some posts on this subject, from several months ago.

Re: Upgrading headlights
Ill have another check on the search then Cheers. Id like them use all the standard functions aswell yes, cant see there being an issue if i can get a g wagen light mount to fit normal 7" lights? That would mean id be able to use any of the aftermarket 7" lights. Worst case ill make up some mounts for the led headlights from land rover supports altered to fit. Looks like a bit more reading is needed, ive seen plenty of face-lifted G's with newer lights so though a standard g light holder might be available.

Re: Upgrading headlights
You can probably get most lights to fit. The factory light aim-height-adjuster works with a closed hydraulic circuit,. The plastic actuators on the lights eventually age and crack, causing the liquid to drain out and then the system will no longer work. The attachment point for this adjuster is what separates the G lights from most other 7" lights. However, if your adjuster is no longer working, then this may not be an issue. Replacement of the adjuster system is a laborious job and some people replace with an electric system from sprinter vans.

Mine all seems to be working fine luckily so will just need to make up or adapt a suitable mounting system. Thanks

Guess being Japanese, everything needs to work 100% to pass their MOT equivalent.

Re: Upgrading headlights
I hope this isn't highjacking your thread but it's related and follows Arnie's comment about Sprinter parts. Does anyone with experience of changing to electric motors for control of headlight levelling have any advice on this please? One of my hydraulic adjusters is broken and the antifreeze has leaked out. Apparently it is not possible to replace one adjuster and the dealer only supplies a complete closed system so that both adjusters have to be replaced together with the knob on the dash and feeding the piping and adjusters through is more trouble than it's worth. Also costly. I have not previously heard of the Sprinter fix so would be interested in hearing more - part numbers perhaps?

Re: Upgrading headlights

Thanks Arnie.  I have ordered the parts from the site you specified and will report on progress in due course.
