I was wanting to gussy up the interior of my G a little and had two questions.

#1, do any of the newer 463 dash parts bolt in to a 461? I was interested in the newer center piece. If not, are there any wood kits out there to help it look better? Mine is all chewed up.

#2, does anyone offer a carpet kit? I can also use bulk material, but the molded carpet sure fits nicer.

As far as I know: NO. All the 463 series parts were of new design.

Some of the latest 460 series Gs here in the UK came with wood on the dashboard and wood cappings in the doors. Perhaps some of the members can shed some light on this. I am pretty sure that they were original parts which I would expect would be quite pricey. Your best bet would be to try to source these from a G broken down for parts, but being the latest 460 series Gs most of them are still in good nick.

I am assuming that your G has the moulded rubber finish, rather than the more upmarket fully carpeted finish of the newer 460 series Gs. I had one just like yours and it had a full set of original MB ribbed mats which I believe were inexpensive in the UK (£53 for the full set, I believe)

Thanks for the info.

Yeah, mine has the moulded rubber. I would like to go to carpet after going over the sound deadening/insulating and was hoping there was a kit available.

No, I don't think that there is a kit, but again you can try to source a good second hand set from a broken down G-Wagen, but be aware that there were interiors at least in black and tan in G-Wagens of that vintage

I have used a company 3/4 times when I have built Motorhomes. They will either provide you with a kit if they have it listed or you can send a template in to them
They have a website called www.noisekiller.co.uk
They are very good and have all manner of rubber coated matting and sound deadening material I have a sample left over if you want to look at it

It would probably be cheaper to get the matting here, but if they can profided a fitted carpet kit I would be very interested in that!

I dont know how happy you are to DIY but I have purchased carpets from a supplier in the uk and bound the edges in leather you do need access to a good industrial sowing machine but it works well. I have a LWB 1987 it has carpets and MB over mats I would be willing to template them for you.
I am also revamping the interior in beige and brown hide and have purchased a good quality veneer to make my own dash parts I will try and keep patterns but it wont be for a month or so

Hey, thanks for the help! Would you be able to supply me with the finished product, or by template do you mean the shapes to cut? I could probably fumble my way through that part, but really appreciate the offer. I'll look at cutting the pieces and then dropping them off at an auto interior shop to get the leather sown on.

I'll be really interested in how your dash trim turns out! I'm thinking about doing that as well. I don't need an ash tray and could sink my additional gauages in the dash there. (temp, oil, alt) and it would look really slick!

I was just in a MB Parts Centre and asked how much the "central part" (where the dif lock switches are on a 463) is in wood veneer panel, and was told a staggering £175 if my memory serves correctly.

Though I think that MB offers different types of wood...

Attached is a picture of the interior of the 230 GE Classic, a limited series of 300 units to celebrate 10 years of the G back in 1989. You can see how nice the wooden parts look and how much they change the appearance of the 460 series' interior. BTW this classic is for sale at the moment at the following links:

The mutts nuts

Thats the look I am after for the dash area but I am not one for spending that amount of money.
In my time I have reveneered and remade and made from scratch 6 Jaguar sets for MarkII and S Types. My own one was peeled away and I totally reveneered it My car wins concours and the judges dont notice i did it myself. It is time consuming but I will kep you posted when I do my G.
When I do my door panels I am changing the style slightly so there is a top roll with a line of veneer in that too NOT for the purists i know!!
