I went to George Fraser today to get my car checked in for a service. Lo and behlod before my eyes when i arrived were two G's! I wonder if they belong to anyone here?

The first was a G plate 280GE LWB in Black with the extra bench seats in the back. Looked very smart, inside and out despite the age of the car, and the second was a E plate 280GE LWB in Gold.

My initial impressions are that these aren't member cars otherwise I am sure they would have mentioned George Fraser amongst these forums. My car goes in next week, and depending of the type of service received i'll be sure to post something back here. After all initially it seems he does have sound knowledge of the G.

You missed me by two hours, I went in with my G300 (in red) at about 10.20am. I saw the black one parked up around the corner and the other one in the workshop witrh some work going on. I getting some work done on mine on Saturday. Thanks for the recommendation. I also found that they advertise in Mercedes Enthusiast Magazine, as does my local guy.

madferrit,

I took my G there for servicing as you had recommended it to me earlier as a place that many of your friends use, but you had yet to try.

Was pretty happy, they picked my car up from my office so I didn't have to drive down there. Carried out the repairs and I had it back that afternoon.

Price was reasonable and they even threw in some extras. My electric mirrors didn't work so they replace the switch and got them working at no charge! Was well pleased with that.

The only downside? I think mine was the last car they worked on on a Friday, so they didn't put the airfilter back on properly.

But would definitely go back.

I haven't got them to work on my G yet... they start work next week and will probably take most of the week for the few minor bits that need to do. In the mean time they've offered a Merc as a courtesy car.. which i'm happy about. A friend who got his V Class serviced there got a classic SL (about a A or B reg) so i'm hoping for the same.

i did take my wifes A160 there about 2 months ago, and asked him to look at a problem with the smell of petrol inside the car. Half hour later i was asked to come into the workshop where they had resolved the problem (cracked air pipe) and told me i can go home. When I asked the price they looked at me and said i better leave before they change their mind.

Definately thumbs up for service. But yes, as with everyone, you should just check to make sure they have done all as needed.

Will report back with my experience next week.

Well, that was lucky.... I had the same problem and bought the switch and replaced it my self last Monday. Replacing it was a five-minute job but the switch alone was £ 21.80!

Or they might have gotten it from any scrapped W201,W124 or W129 from 1992-1994 which they shared the switch with the GWagen.

Cheers

Just out of curiousity...

Does anyone happen to know of a fault on the early model A Class.. where the electric windows won't operate?!?!
