We bought a 1988 300GD in Germany 3 months ago and have put 8000kms on it thus far.  We have been through Germany, Switzerland up over the alps, bought some parts from gfg in Gotha Germany and had the pleasure of grinding off and getting shock and spring perches replaced in graz by the great man michael at tschiewagon.com.  Also met Derk at g-zuna in netherlands who is one of the nicest guys ever and helped us get a camp site there in his town.

we just bought another 1989 300gd here in the loire valley of France.  We are coming up to Uk next Monday and will be continuing our search for parts to make these two as presentable as possible.  Both have the great gertrag 5 speed manual transmission.  Both need a 617A.

Sounds like a fantastic trip.

Some day I hope do this in the G with my family. How long were you on the road? Was it all campsites? Any tips you can tell us?
