There is this great off roading site in the centre of Wales, near Rhayader, not far from Hereford, run by a farmer called Tom Breese. Its a 600+ acre property and you are allowed to go anywhere on the farm land. There are no fences except at the border of the property, so you know how far you can go. Terrain ranges from streams and fords, dirt tracks, fields, bogg and some very steep hill climbs. I have been there a few times in groups with other guys in Landies and we've only had one major incident, my friend once rolled his V8 on its side as he slipped into a rutt  . Always had a brilliant time, I do advise mud terrain tyres as standard for winter and spring as it can get very muddy and slippery. Someone with a winch is always helpful. They are open 7 days a week from 1000hrs, the whole year round and they do allow camping with fires(we bring a petrol chainsaw to cut up any dead wood we find). They also hold major off-roading and scrambler events the year round, so it's best to phone to see if anything is going on at the time. Give Tom a ring on 01597 870202 for details(Havn't checked the number of late).

 Directions:
Assuming you are starting off in the centre Rhayader next to the stone clock tower in the middle of the high street, coming in from the east. Take the right north onto the A470 for 30 yards and then take another right onto the B4518 to St Harmon. Keep going for quite a few miles until you get to a town called Pan-y-dwr. You should see an old red phone box next to a pub on the left and a right turn just over the road, take it. You'll eventually get to a junction on a 90 degrees right hand bend, go straight on and NOT to Bwlch-y-sarnau. Go down here for a mile and a bit and then there will be a small right bend and then take a left straight after that onto a compressed stone and gravel track(a bit bumpy) that runs through a pine forest. After a mile you should get to a gate that opens out into grassy fields and hills, head round to the base camp and look for a guy with a beard whose always riding about on his quad bike, thats Tom, he'll sort out costs etc. And ENJOY :D !!

Now I hope to see other G's there now as I've never seen any others before when I've been there. If you don't feel like camping there are some B&B's and hotels in Rhayader.
WARNING: Mobile phone coverage is poor at the site so don't go doing anything stupid enough that you need to call an ambulance :( .

Sounds good. If you go again let me know, will try to turn up.

Summer though. Not in to wet/cold camping plus don't have mud terrain tyres (our G is used on sand alot so aggresive tread patterns are no use)

Just thought I'd link a few pictures of the place as it looks in the summertime.

When we plan on going again Russ I'll give you a heads up.

Adrian.
