swb g wagons
Hi
When were the swb g wagons made, or do they still make them?
I am after a late swb, could be diesel or petrol as i want to convert the engine anyway
What sort of money would a tidy one command
My 463 is pretty good all round but i would sell it and buy a later one if one surfaced

Around 2011/12
Final ones were the limited edition BA3 Final edition.
Best going to Germany to look.
Sorry to contradict but they are still being made one in preston Lancashire and one in liverpool.
should be ready in December.but pre ordered.
and in somerset ... if you buy a late car it has to have by law catalyst etc and it will be smothered in stupid electronics canbus - re-build a classic and you have none of that .
order book is full - sorry
There's a couple in Girona, Spain as well
Never knew the SWB was special order only. Does that mean higher second hand values versus the LWB ?
no- the lwb is the 'darling' due to its 9 people carrying talents and the number of doors!
however the swb is a honey to chuck around being loads lighter with a much better power to weight ratio/ and braking / surely derek you know this to be true be the proud owner of a pair of super g's ... of both types
i would suggest the next machine for your G collection would be a pickup of short or long wheelbase..
Hi Mike,
I can honestly say that I could not decide which is the better - both have equally great but different features. The LWB is a cruiser and is a pleasure to drive on the motorway and long distance. The road holding and cornering is superb. The 606 engine is quiet, has bags of power and yet economical. Combined with the high spec leather interior, it feels and drives like a modern truck.
On the 460 SWB, it's a completely different drive. The engine revs higher and provides a lot more torque. It can be a 'hairy' drive experience on small lanes and barrels along at extraordinary speed down the beach front near me with little effort. You do need to hold on to the steering wheel to keep it going in the one direction due to the power at the wheels but this is the driving experience. There is absolutely a noticeable driving difference due to the power to weight ratio.
Interestingly, the SWB gets way more attention from admirers at the forecourt and stands taller than the LWB. I think the SWB is probably less common over here.
I could see a pickup making up the group. But what engine format I wonder....

2011.
LHD SWB finished in 2011 as noted above.
LHD SWB Cabrio still being built I think.
RHD SWB finished late 90's, have I seen one 2000 reg?
Could well be right, sure I have seen the odd RHD G500 Cab, late 90's or 00.
You have answered my question
I need to know what year standard production swb g wagons were made to. Not special order just standard models
I m thinking 1995 but i need expert advice
As they do special builds would it be possible to get a g wagon made in
swb with all body and chassis but no engine or gearbox and transfer box
I know it wont come registered etc but i need to know a contact and answer for my project
All brand new and ready to go to fit my engine and box and transfer box
Cheapest trim and spec option available
It will save me welding and minting up an old model g when i could have a new one possibly. I dont want a new lwb or their new engines etc so could this option be achieved somehow

I've had several SWB G's from 1984 (300GD Auto) to 2001 (400CDi). As far as I know in Europe, none were special order. They all had the same standard equipment, as the LWB versions.
MB has probably stopped making them to rationalise on production, becausee the LWBs share the same chassis with the military ones and current professional range.
SWB production (incl. cabrio) totally stopped a couple of years ago, But if you want a RHD, then the year is around 1996. After that, in the UK, both LWB and SWB were by special order only for a few years and then mainly available as LHD (some RHD and some conversions up to about 1999/2000). Just in recent years MB UK commenced again with RHD models, but only LWB, because that's what most people want. (But I think the SWBs look best.)
so, if you want SWB and RHD then cut-off is c. 1996
if you're happy with LHD, then c. 2012
I know of a 1999 G500 SWB in Right hand drive - don't think its for sale but could always ask.
