Every now and again my sunroof switch decides it's bored and tries bungee jumping. I usually just stick it back in, but a week or so later it comes out to play again. I can't work out what's supposed to, (and sometimes does) hold it in, I'm guessing some lug that might be missing. Anybody know? Other than it's bungee addiction it works fine.

Thanks.

Re: Sunroof switch

You can buy the whole light assembly with sunroof switch for a fiver on eBay. It's from the W124.

Otherwise, just glue the switch in place.

My switch is as shown. If I were to glue it in, in the future, how would I get it out if that becomes necessary?

The whole light cluster can be removed, along with the switch. You van use some clear silicone from the rear. This should be enough to hold it in place and allow it to be extracted, if necessary, in future.

Here are a few pics, you can see the main body is fine, it's just the switch itself that bungees. Would it be ok just to glue that  bit in. As I say, other than popping out periodically, it works fine.

Re: Sunroof switch

Ian,

your pictures show what appears to be stress-cracks in the translucent lens area for the light, adjacent to the switch.. I would carefully pull-out the whole assembly and see whether that tabs which retain the switch may have broken off, in which case, the problem is not with the switch but with the housing.  A few blobs of contact adhesive or silicone from the back, can retain the switch and it can still be removed anytime later, if required.

Otherwise, as show above, a replacement part can be had relatively inexpensively.

Re: Sunroof switch

Gentlemen -  I have the same switch on my '92 463 ... I am sure that it used to tilt when pushed it up and come back down when pulled down (as it did on my old W124 and possibly W210); now I have to push forward and back.  Is that right?  Can't be, can it?

Re: Sunroof switch

Interesting - so I've just been out to check what my switch does (looks the same and mine is a 93 SWB 463 (although manufactured in 1991).

And as your remembered, if I push the switch up the back of the sunroof tilts upwards. Pull the switch down and the sunroof closes

If I pull the switch backwards then the sunroof opens. Push it forward and the sunroof closes.

If you push the switch upwards do you get any kind of "click" from the sunroof rather than the switch? If so may just be a bit stuck and sunroof requires a bit of lubrication.

Yup, has tilt as well as slide function.
