Sunroof fault

I may be being dense, but the sunroof on my new G doesn't tilt although it slides fine, however on closing it doesn't do the bit "extra" and push up at the back so it is lying flat relative to the roof rather than flush. If we have a lot of rain worried I'll spring a leak :-(

I've tried every position on the 4-way switch.

Any ideas? Sorry if it is a noob question.

Re: Sunroof fault

It's not a noob question.

You need to sort this out or you're going to find you have very wet carpets.

Try giving the rails a good clean and grease. Gunge does tend to mount up. Some areas are not easy to get to - I used WD40 with the long plastic nozzle it originally comes with. Then try using the sunroof several times (with the engine running or you'll end up with a flat battery).

Whilst there, it's worth flushing the drains as these also can get clogged up and lead to wet carpets.

Remove the interior cover and work the the sunroof; I expect you to see the padding on the slides either side which lift the sunroof to a close position to be worn or dislodged. Check it out.

The cover unclips (pull down) from the front side and then slide out forward and downward.

Re: Sunroof fault

Mine will tilt or slide back. Wow am i flash

The only thing is it will not stop where it should when closed. I just put my hand on roof to check its shut level by tapping switch

I must do this as its been on my job list for over a year

I posted a while ago but no answers yet that helped

There must be a switch that tells the roof its closed

I took the cover off to reveal motor but got called away so re fitted it

Any thoughts. Does the relay control this as it has many pins and where are the switches to tell it the roof is shut

                                Cheers Gaz

Re: Sunroof fault

Hi,

So I removed the cover. The arms that tilt the sunroof don't look obviously broken.

When I slide the sunroof closed what I assume is meant to happen is that the mechanism tilts it slightly once fully forward. However this does not happen. See first image from outside the vehicle - this is with the sunroof "parked". It appears lower on the RHS than the left.

If I operate the switch by pressing up (to tilt the roof) it does shut a little more, as below.

Here is a video on YouTube of me working the roof with the panel off

So it seems something is a miss on the driver's side of the mech but I cannot see anything obvious.

The seal is a little perished and hard on the outside, might this be preventing the roof from lifting?

Thanks,

Chris
