MY 1993 463 has a non standard smaller wooden steering wheel which I don't like the look or feel of it and it blocks the top of the speedo,

I've still got the orig one, but as its not with me - can any one confirm if the standard fit ones where leather or not ?

If not I'm guessing a W126 leather one will be a direct fit ?  I cant justify this one which I do like at the moment

Also, does anyone know the nut size off hand 22 or 24 mm ?

Re: Steering wheel removal

Most non-airbag, Mercedes, steering wheels will fit without problems, including the eBay one that you picked-out. However, be aware that these particular  'zebrano' steering wheels have been remanufactured from the original plastic or leather-clad versions. I think they come from Turkey. They look very nice if you have a Zebrano wood trim on the rest of the car. The scallops for the finger placements on the rear of the wood rim are, however, rather crude and '2D' compared to an original MB design. (at least on one that I bought last year from the same seller, albeit I think they were cheaper back then). Nevertheless, I don't think that there were any original Zebrano wood steering wheels from Mercedes, so not much other choice if you want a match.I think you will also find Zebrano gearknobs, if you look.

...and yes, the standard-fit 463 steering wheels had a leather rim.

There is a company in the UK that will refurbish your original wheel with a new, top-quality, leather replacement, for around £100.

Re: Steering wheel removal

Thanks for that,

Will stick the orig back on,  will have to give it a good clean up.

I bought one of the zebrano gear knobs but have not fitted it yet,

Thanks for the advice re the finger scallops

Re: Steering wheel removal

One thing to watch is that the horn fittings are different in 123 & 126's. I have a 123 fitting and need a 126 fitting to make the horn press work, otherwise it just breaks off the little metal bits that work the horn.
