Hello all. In a bit of a bind here. Trying to replace my steering lock mechanism as the old one has tired and I'm having a hell of a time getting the old one out. I know I need to loosen up the collar around the shaft where the lock slips in and push on the small spring loaded locking pin but I'm just not seeing it anywhere. Any ideas? I have the new one here so I know what I'm looking for and the frustration grows by the minute. You can see in the photos what I'm looking at. One looking down and the others from under the dash (moving the collar back and forth as much as possible). Cheers in advance.

Re: Steering Lock Mechanism Removal

Hi I've just changed a petrol steering lock to a diesel ine on Nick & Hillary's 460. So I'm fresh at doing this

First take the clamp off completely or you cant get to the push in button, then put the lock in position 2, the one that puts the radio on but not the ignition.  This releases the button mechanism. Then the lock can be retracted.  Get it part way out and remove the key becaues you have to rotate the lock away from the demister pipes.

When yo have the lock out, repeat the process to get the barrel out of the lock, the push button for the barrel is about 1.5 mm dia

Hope this helps

Re: Steering Lock Mechanism Removal

Thanks for the reply G Rest. I hear what you're saying however I fully loosened the clamp and rotated it such that I was able to inspect the entire steering lock shaft and could not locate an access hole for the lock pin. The only way to remove the clamp with the steering lock still in place would be to destroy it which I'm reluctant to do just yet. What's odd is regardless of the key settings, when I rotate the steering lock inside the steering lock shaft I don't feel any friction from the lock pin, but there is about 1/3 inch rotation so it seems I should be seeing a slot and not a hole. It's puzzling and shouldn't/didn't expect it to be this difficult.

Read my instructions again, remove the collar, the button is just past the top on the back, look on the one you have in your hand. There's no need to destroy anything
