If you want your truck sorted and you don't mind leaving it near Boston in lincolnshire then call Spilsby rd garage on 01205 270241. £30 an hr but they know everything to know about mercs and they have the specail electronics machine for later mercs but they know there stuff about old mercs and they are in the GWOA. Done my 280GE and my friends 300GE.

Spent £1300 with them but well worth the journey

I just got my G backfrom this garage after having a new timing chain fitted. I supplied the parts bought from the local MB dealer after discussing with the guys what needed replacing. They changed the chain, D rail, tensioner and the hydraulic elements which operate the valves. These had worn slightly and rattled on start up .They said that the chain had no wear in it after 180 000 miles and that the crank and camshafts lined up exactly. He said that the engines run to 300 000 miles on the original chains without problems. He has never heard of a catostophic failure due to chain breakage. Normally the chain starts to make noises indicating excessive wear long before that happens.

The guys in the garage no all there is to know about MB vehicles and I would recommend them to all. The guy is in the club and trying to source a 350 gdl from Germany

Bloody hell!

You should see Roly's 300 GD LWB barging down the motorway back from Stuttgart at 90 mph with Ian (Peter Perfect) doing a full moon from the back seat!!!!

180,000 miles???? Unbelievable.

Back to the point in hand - I would echo entirely the comments of others about Spilsby Road Garage - excellent experiences with them on my 463 in the latter half of 2008, very decent to deal with, and I would strongly recommend them. Getting to them in the Lincolnshire vastness is an expedition in itself, but it is very well worth the trip.
