Speedometer and Heated Washer Jets - 1988 230 GES
The speedo in my G has started making a dreadful whirring noise. The needle still records speed. The odometer has not worked for years.
I have removed it (Sat Nav now tells me how slow I am going) as it is too noisy to drive with.
Do I get it repaired, if so where, or get a good working second hand one?
Despite living in the tropical snow free South it would be nice if the heated washer jets on my G would get warm. Are they switched on with the heated rear window? Can replacements still be sourced?
Thanks in anticipation
These guys are usually very good, if a little slow...
Will look at Jets...

Only the later ones Hus, from chassis 055xxx from memory, Mr Panzer's is just north of the cut off...
Use the W124 standard Jet....
Glad you got the Strikers, will check paypal monday...
Speedy do a good job and are reasonable, i guess price depends on what's wrong with it when its stripped?!?

Short wire with white plug after 6"
Hi, I used www.speedograph-richfield.com 01159264235 when my speedo cable snapped. If I remember it was about £40 and took a week from posting to them and getting it returned.
I've also used Speddograph Richfield.
Did an excellent job and also recalibrated speedo to take account of non original tyres.

Do we have an answer to the question posed about what switches on the power to the heater in the screenwash jet?
My G with heated washers has no mention in the manual text or electrical diagrams about them so it would be back to tracing wires unless a later manual tells us. A 58xxx 1988 car so close to yours.

out of interest did any one find out what turns the heated washer jets ON
I read somewhere they're on the ssme circuit as the heated rear window, makes sense i supose

I believe that they are on the same circuit as the front wash pump. This means that they are heated whilst spraying. If frozen, it requires a few spray attempts to get them heated enough to defrost.
Many thanks I will be in touch for the heated Jets and on the phone to Speedy.
Was I right that the HRW activates the element in the jets?
