Speed six pickup build
Here are a few photos of or latest build, I found a very rusty 1981 280GE LWB when the club were having our get together at George Freemans sand & gravel quarry near Peterborough, I managed to do a deal with George and rescue the G from it's fate. There never was a plan to restore this as is because the body had mostly dissolved, so we're going to make it into a two door pickup. The final spec will include an OM606 engine set at 220HP, six speed manual gears, High ratio axles and disks on the rear axle. another possibility is a high capacity alloy fuel tank. I'm still to decide whether the styling will be 460 or 463.
I managed to get hold of three cabs from a dealer in Holland so a couple of days in Delft and a visit to the windmills at Kinderdyke and back on the ferry to Hull. So to work, we stripped the G back to parts saving everthing we could including the bulkhead to convert the cab from left to right hand drive. The remains of the rust was weighed in and we sandblasted the chassis.
The chassis hasn't got away from the tin worms completely and needed some remedial work. this included front body mounts all the rear suspension mounts, and a repair on the rear tube.
The next step is to make the chassis longer to take a Landrover 110 pick up body bought brand new off eBay
More to follow, Gordon
Now that looks like an exciting project.
Looking forward to more pictures
Ah - so that's how you change the heater fan regulator.
How's the pickup coming along Gordon?
