Hello

As many of you know, I accidentally became the Southern rep at the AGM but the next day had a fight with an escalator at Waterloo and lost so have been physically off-road for nearly 3 months. I am now (literally) back in the driving seat and have had a member suggest this. http://www.greentrackevents.co.uk/

Not a bad idea I feel if for no other reason than their photos show a proliferation of Land Rovers and Range Rovers on the website (no offence Jamie) but what they need is some G Wagens.

Anyway let me know what you think.

Caroline

Glad to see you fixed after the escalator gate disaster! Looks like a great site however there is no mention of any driving of your own vehicle only using theirs??? I really do not want to drive my g there and then to pay to drive a land rover! Sounds like we need to ask if we can pay and play with our own G's

Re: Southern region meet?

Will aim to make it - so long as its not end of Jan '15. Axel is right - No G, why would I want to drive around in a 'Wannabe' *sniff*

Any evening meets planned??? Much nicer terrifying a small village and having three + G's turn up! Nice pub in Vernham Dean and good to see your up and about.

Have to say I agree. I want to drive my G and not other people's Land Rovers

Have emailed them to ask them what we can do but as yet have not had a response

Re: Southern region meet?

I've asked over on one of the LR forums I'm on to see what the general concensus is of the place.

My personal opinion, is it's run by people who want you to do what they want, in their vehicles. but I could be wrong.

It will be a liability thing. It has to be their vehicles under their supervision. We really need our own club insurance for events as this will open up so many venues and sites. Let's see what they say . I really do not get excited about driving a defender .

Re: Southern region meet?

That's the general feeling I'm getting from the LR site Mike... insurance.  a good friend of mine over there (LR site, not the greentracks place) does event organising for a living and he says the same; insurance means their own vehicles only.

I suppose the only way to get around it at the moment is to hire a total play site, like west harptree,

or a Salisbury plain meet

My friend owns lambs lair I showed the site to spider for the stillborn southwest AGM. We would have to have our own club insurance to use these sites. If it added 20 quid to the club membership fee would we all be ok with that.

I think  its an excellent idea of Mikes proposing  Lambs lair   and I am sure members wouldn't have an objection to contributing to insurance.

The site looks very exciting on google earth.

Re: Southern region meet?
I have spent some time this afternoon researching insurance for clubs and events . Forget all about signing disclaimers etc, we must have proper insurance for events and be able to take responsibility for safety and management of the event and the safe driving by members throughout the time on site. This is something that needs putting together at an AGM by the committee. It can be done and should be done if we want to be able to use off road sites on a club organised basis . This would make the job of a regional rep. Much easier to organise a driving day off road etc . The trip we did on Salisbury plain organised by the gwoa was great fun and a real mini adventure. More please.

I'd be happy with that if it meant we could drive more freely at those sort of sites.

Would be happy do do Salisbury plain if that is what people want

well done Axel for your time you have put in to this

would this insurance be for GWOA organized (marshaled) events  ONLY

or would members be covered on other off road marshaled events ?

Re: Southern region meet?

I'd happily lead a run around Salisbury plain... I know it like the back of my hand!  It's my main laning haunt.. I'm usually out there once a week.

It's no pay and play site, and I don't treat it as such (nor do I lead groups who do that) but there's plenty of scenic stuff, mud and ruts if you know where to find it, and can be totally non scratchy. plus you get to see lots of green armour!

Although for the forseeable future you'd have to put up with being led by a defender 110.... my G is nowhere near ready!

Re: Southern region meet?

Minxy - have sent you some detail on Salisbury pain. It was a great day out!

Re the Lambs pit thingy that Axel was discussing - it would be perfect as it has both soft and hard core ares - so those members who have never off roaded before or are nervous, could start off and as their confidence grows could then progress onwards. Obviously those hard care members would fiannly get something they could (if they wanted to) trash their trucks!laugh

Insurance......the bain of my life! I have been offered and researched some fantastic places - the MVEE test tracks in Camberley, to off roading in the Scottish highlands, some fantastic closed off orad sites down near aldermaston though to places in essex/ herts area -  however unless there was club insurance it was a no go. Tried and failed to get the old 'heads' interested and we know how that ended crying

Maybe with the change in Junta and the new growing and reinvigorated GWOA things may considered different? Echoing what has already been said the off road world would open up if we had some club insurance. Though it would involve things like H&S, risk assessments, but I think there are always members who are willing to give a hand..

Re: Southern region meet?

to me its very sad when members try to spice things up and organize events

little or no one turns up and on the odd occasion when they do

there is no support from the GWOA  junta

i did try  to plan a trip to GRAZ 2 years on the trot 1 person came on the second year

this year i shall just go on my own and save my breath crying

and 90% of our members G are over 10 years old official (old clunkers)

i am a member of the harley owners out here in Thailand and once a month

the area reps organize trips sumui / golden triangle / Burma / Malaysia / Cambodia ect

its there job !!!! the rest of us just have to drink beer and turn up

i live in hope that things will change

Re: Southern region meet?

With you there Adrian. It needs people to support things to get them up and running. Learning curve sometimes but better than nothing.

There really needs to be some kind of club insurance for things like this. Have emailed the top brass and am waiting to see what is said. Mike is investigating the sort of thing needed. Doubtless there are those who will not want to be involved so this should be taken into account

At the moment, it looks like Salisbury plain is an option and have a couple of leads to follow up, Expect emails Diesel Jim and Panzer!

Will look forward to seeing what Mike comes up with too

Re: Southern region meet?

Caroline, if you want to put a Salisbury Plain day on the calender I'll make the drive down from the Naaaarth, perhaps we could get a convoy started picking  people up on the way.

I'm sure Jamie would be up for being our guide

Re: Southern region meet?

That sounds fun! Mike is having a look at Public liability stuff (as you no doubt know) and so am I. It would be good to get something via the club methinks. I hadn't thought of it but had it brought to my attention the risks if you don't have it and how the organisers could be to blame. Not keen on that idea!

Jamie is on my list to email as soon as this pesky festive period is over and things start to get back to normal.

Re: Southern region meet?

It's software made by Ordnance survey, so just a computerised OS map.

Plug in a GPS receiver to your laptop/ipad/ or in my case, carPC, and you get live mapping of where you are. being Os the maps have all the byways/RUPPS etc on them (although my version isn't the latest so some are now RB's or just totally closed/bridleways)

I only asked as I have several SPTA routes i can email over if people are interested in whats about.

Re: Southern region meet?

i think a way forward with this is for the GWOA (junta) admin and all

the area reps to have video / Skype conference to chat / talk this

through with a commitment from the reps to hold events !!!!!

and the junta and admin to support the idea of making the GWOA

active ( a better club ) as we need there support to make this work

then the reps to contact the members under there control for a pole / vote!

on the best plan of attack (YEA OR NAY )

if not the junta + will take a big sigh of relief  ( PHEW )  that was close

as it falls into the bowels of the forum

Re: Southern region meet?
I have spent some more time looking into this insurance matter. One thing is clear - if we want to organise or hold meets involving 'inviting' gwoa members or guests 'we' as a club need insurance to protect itself and the organisers of these events from any potential claim. The best move is as I keep finding is for the club to become an affiliated member of the MSA along with this comes insurance for events and it's organisers. I am not a member of the committee and have not been officially asked to do this research . It costs a modest amount to join the msa and abiding by the terms of the event insurance is not onerous . Over to our reps and full committee for consideration.

Re: Southern region meet?

I know over on the defender2, if we have a laning day out, it's just someone leading, and if others want to rock up on the day and tag along, that's what they do (usually limited to x number of vehicles, but I can't see us having dozens of G's tuning up...??)

Maybe as it's all on public byways then insurance for an "event" isn't an issue. That's certainly the kind of thing I was offering, just some laning and a lunch stop or 2.

Re: Southern region meet?
Agreed jim . The statement of I am going from here join me if you want to come is fine . But if the area rep. Wants to organise a meet up via the forum and it is a gwoa event and then someone has a injury or suchlike while they are taking part in a club event the law can take a view that the club has a duty of care and the land owner will not wish to be liable to a claim, I know this sounds a bit cheesy but we need to be able to make a rep. Who organises an event safe from liability. If it goes badly wrong you could lose your shirt . The insurance to make it possible for the club to be able to host events at private offroading sites and land would give the regional reps. So much more scope to organise exciting events, this kind of insurance is not horribly expensive and the club could afford to do this . It just requires the will of the management to get the cover put in place .

Re: Southern region meet?

Hi Guys / Girls

The Club is currently looking into insurance for these Events that is much needed to keep everything covered

Eunan (Donegal G ) And Buckalec  and Needamerc  and Myself have ran The Donegal Weekend for 4/5 years without any insurance that would have been needed for the Off Road Part

What we done was the land that we used for our off roading I printed a Disclaimer with the details of the land and landowner

With  details of the Driver , Passengers  , Vehicle and Reg number and gave one to everyone to fil in and sign That we wouldnt be making any claims for Damages or loss,s to the landowner but would pay for any Damage done to this Land

We never had any problems but would prefer something in place Asap
