Hi all I'm looking to order some sound deadening material under my bonnet.. There seems to be several makes.. Dynamat, dodo, silent coat, stinger stealth... Has anyone any experience of these;.. I'm going to do the floors and inside the doors as well .. Obviously.. Heat and moisture resistant is important under bonnet.. Will order something this week.... Once I have decided... Your advice would be appreciated

Re: Sound deadening material

Hi John

The 460 Insulation is NLA as you know

I priced a 463 version for Howard Green last week at around £150 and available

Can't see why it would not fit, in all honesty it looks identical

Also saw one last week or so with Insulation fitted like your thinking and looked great

Can't remember if it was Adrian Cox's or Mark Ashton's

Maybe one will chirp in..

Gav

Re: Sound deadening material
Evening John I have dynamated the interior of my 460. Very pleased with the results. But more importantly about to fit dynamat extreme plus Noise Killer under bonnet insulation (Sunday hopefully). Dynamat does the sound. The noise killer does that + heat etc. I'll let you know what it works like. Reason for it is driving 200 miles with the oil filler off. Fed up of getting covered in oil from the age old 'felt' that has circa 2 litres of castrols finest part synthetic in it :-) If you go the Dynamat route then keep an eye out on EBay as there are often kit deals so no need to pay the exhorbitant RRP.. Or as Gav says why not go Merc OEM.. My combo is at about £100 Ta Simon

Hi mate...

I went for the Silent coat kit... 41 pieces for 77 quid.(Fleabay). i can always add to the underbonnet panel with something thicker on top as these sheets are an amazing 2mm thick... hopefully enough to do the entire car! (Dynomat recommends this approach anyway)

should arrive Wednesday... report of difference by Thurs /Fri...

Re: Sound deadening material

Hi Pics of my re-work for under bonnet deadening.

Given the amount of possible places for noise to get out of a 460 engine bay the idling noise is 'softer' by about 10% however it is a lot more refined at higher revs/speeds..

Mind you I think the bonnet now weights about 60lbs :-) definately shuts with a 'thunk'

Ta Simon

PS: I could just have used the noise killer

Re: Sound deadening material

looking good!!....

My 'Silentcoat' sound deadening is going in tomorrow... just before i took the old rotten deadening felt out i noticed that there was a flap of felt at the front LHS that was hanging down and occasionally being sucked into the air filter intake pipe!!... that caused a few odd over-rich running issues...(wondered what was causing them!)  now in the bin!!

Re: Sound deadening material

I put the sound deadening today.... underbonnet and entire rear floor and arches...

the bonnet is really heavy and closes with a dull thud rather than the zing of resonating sheet metal...  time will tell if it makes any difference.... each sheet of 'Silent Coat' is only 2mm thick and heat resistant... but is very heavy.. self adhesive... about 12x18 inch sheets which make them easy to handle and shape around different parts

Re: Sound deadening material
Just a for info follow-up. The noise killer product continually detached and finally simply fell off when the exhaust guys were working on it. I will be talking to noise killer at some point as to me, and the others working on the car, the adhesive used is not suitable. Whilst it sticks initially, it seems to stay tacky and becomes almost liquid when subject to very mild heat - a 300GD ain't ever that hot - not good for a heat shield. So it's a don't buy from me on the noise killer Ta Simon
