Sometimes main dealers do seem to offer good value
Just received email from my local MB main dealer offering:-
For just £69 we’ll complete an air conditioning service on your car, which includes:
• Extracting the air conditioning refrigerant gas
• Clearing air and moisture from the system
• Replenishing the air conditioning refrigerant gas and system oil
• Re-testing for leaks and performance
• Carrying out a Visual Health Check for your car
• A car wash and vacuum
Seems reasonable to me.

That looks like good value
£69 from a dealer if they do it all properly is not bad.
Few people do it, but the drier cannister should also be changed periodically.
The efficiency of the system depends on how well the system is vacuumed-down initially, to extract old refrigerant and old, compressor lubricant oil, as well as air, water vapour and any other gasses that may have entered over time. This should be for at least 30 minutes, However, some only leave the vacuum for 5 minutes, which is inadequate. I think a typical charge for a system re-gas from an independent (eg Halfords) is about £40.
Go main dealer for the extra
They have proper kit and not kids messing with your car who wont know a g wagon
If its not perfect mercedes will give some kind of back up
Halfords would not help afterwards and im sure Mercedes would be best with at least some g wagon knowledge
