MY drivers window seems to be fine going down but really slow going back up.

I've tried cleaning the rubbers and lubricating with silicone spray, but does not seem any better

Any ideas ?

Window rubber has little to do with this.

You need to remove the inner door panel and then clean and lubricate the guide rails of the window mechanism

You'll find years of accumulated dirt and dried-up grease. Eventually the extra strain will damage the mechanism.

Whilst in there, apply some waxoyl to the inside of the door skins.

Re: Slow driver window

Don't do any stripping down till you know where the problem is.  Put a battery on the ground next to the door and put a direct feed to the motor if it goes up and down like it should the problem is electrical usually a bad earth .

Many thanks I will take the door skin off next weeeknd, and have a look inside.

The idea with the battery is a good one

Re: Slow driver window

I'm guessing you're talking about a 463, as few 460's had electric windows. if so,

...for the removal of the inner door card/panel:

  • Do not remove the wood trim

  • The door-opening pull lever has a bezel which comes off by gently pushing/sliding to the left or right.

  • Then there  are two screw on the door handle underside

  • One tiny grey or black screw and cup washer (DO NOT LOSE) on the top corner of the door panel

  • Further screws (2 or 3) around the door pocket

  • and push clips all round the circumference (some will break so may need to order a dozen or so spares before hand)

    • Plastic push-clips:  A 463 988 02 78  and A 463 988 01 25   (12 of each per door)

Re: Slow driver window

Ah - thanks for this Arnie. I am about to replace the window scrapers as existing ones are brittle and ends have cracked/broken so these tips really handy for me too - especially re the plastic push-clips which I hadn't thought about..

Why are there 2 part numbers?

Re: Slow driver window

The ECP lists two part numbers: the first, for the Door-Card-to-Door and the other for the door-pocket. Perhaps you only need the first one, as the door-pocket to door may just be plastic plugs for the screws to screw into and unlikely to break.

Re: Slow driver window

Don't want to be voice of gloom but a new window rubber will make it worse, be very careful if you dismantle window regulator not to loose/damage the 4plastic clips that act as a guide for it to up and down , as I am told the only spares for thge window regulator is a new complete unit, not cheap...Hopefully a bit of a strip down will help
