Slight tilt to the G
I've noticed that on a flat parking location that I have a slight incline to the driver's side of the G. It's LHD. I'm assuming it's the spring vice shocks given in over age with a solo driver. Best options?
Gary
If the tilt is 'slight', there is a levelling procedure specified by MB.
This involves placing the vehicle on a flat, level surface and then loosening the bolts on all the radius arms and then rocking the body until it appears level, followed by retightening .
You can also lift the body / chassis on the side that is low, before retighteming.
This was a procedure to address complaints on new vehicles, so not sure it will work if the springs have really sagged.
Usually, you see vehicles which are lower in the rear, where the rear springs have sagged.
No. No shims. There is a tiny amount of movement available in the radius arm location bolts, so the procedure is to loosen, adjust body/chassis to level and then retighten bolts.
If you do a google search, there have been other posts on the subject, but can't recall which forum, with pictures of before and after.

Also, note that the shock absorbers are gas-pressurised types on the G500 and if one has failed, this could also have a significant effect.
Broken spring? Not uncommon, particularly if it's been off-road.
Yes, have seen a broken spring on a 2004 G with less than 50k miles and town-use only. However, with the state our roads these days, perhaps that's not surprising.
Could it also be linked to the Shocks as well as a broken spring?

WHERE DID YOU GET THOSE.......I WANT SOME

the adjustment procedure is detailed in the WIS, but I don't have a copy available right now.
Gandore..
Don't discount a broken spring!!
There are lots of G's running around with them and owners don't know!
I have personally seen 3 that have even fooled the MOT tester here in the UK!
Does not alter ride stance as much as you think...

Yes, before attempting any adjustment which would involve loosening some extremely tight bolts, check that each spring is fully intact from top to bottom.
Also, I would advise on checking the shock absorbers, since the gas-pressure types, as fitted, will apply around 30 - 50 kg of pushing/extension force on each side and this can easily account for the 1" height difference, if one shock has lost some pressure.
The WIS adjustment procedure was targeted at customers of new vehicles, which were unlikely to have any broken springs or worn shocks.
I'll second what Gav says, some years ago a broken front spring was discovered on my SL. I had no idea it was broken, it was the lower tip that had sheared.
Thanks, Arnie.
When you say lift, are you referring to adding shims?
I know this G has never carried anything and was only used as a Tokyo runner. I didn't personally meet the original owner but it's hard to imagine a successful, large overweight Japanese man as the previous owner. ; )
Thanks again.
