Currently my G has no alarm system installed - Which alarm is best advised for a 280GE?

Cheers

There is no right answer.  Just opinion.  It depends if you are preventing theft from inside the vehicle, or the vehicle itself.

IMO - any alarm with noise and an immobiliser.  You cannot prvent entering the car, but you can make a lot of noise and prevent it going anywhere.

G bonnets are relatively easy to open up, for access to immobilisers and alarms installed there, so install boxes inside the cabin.

If you want some discount off your insurance, think about a Thatcham certified alarm.

Cheap option to prevent theft of the vehicle is to purchase a cheap GPS tracker and window stickers that say you have that.... the deterrent is as good as a loud siren and better than relying on the police to locate your car.  Loads of places to hide the tracker.

My two penn'orth..? Any alarm is a first class PITA. For years I worked on the west Scotland ferries and we all cursed alarms. They would go off at all times on the sea crossings and shatter the peace. Never once have I seen anyone run towards them to prevent any malfaction. If you ever want to cause mischief just set off a vehicle alarm and work away unhindered. That's only my "HO", by the way.

If you REALLY want to do something a secure garage, an immobiliser and a visual deterrent are the avenues to follow. Good luck! Nick.

Re: Secuity Alarm for 280GE

As soon as I got mine I had the old system completely removed and a new Viper Alarm/Immobiliser/Remote Central Locking system installed. It seems to work fine and has a bright blue LED flashing while armed.

Any system is a mild deterrent at best but I'm happy with the Viper.

I also had front and rear WiFi dashcams put in, just in case they prove useful at some point...

Good luck with your G :-)
