Has anyone successfully tried to fit any other make of seats to a G, I would love leather seats but doubt I could afford the real things.

Seats

Really anything in a near size would fit. what you may have to do though is make up an 1/8th surface plate to allow fordifferent hole positions When I build Motor homes I usually buy a swivel plate so seat can be turned to face the back. all these are is two plates joined by a locking ball race...
An engineer i use for certification said the boxes can be made from wood if the seat belts are anchoured from the floor and not the seat...Not that I would fancy sitting my seat on a wooden box though

corsa seats

actually I found when looking for replacement seats in a scrapyard, that a lot of car seats were too thick based to sit on top of the lockers in a lwb G and leave enough space for your legs under the steering wheel.I eventually went for seats out of a 4 year old corsa(opel/vauxhall)they might'nt be the best seats in the world but were a big improvement over what I had.I fitted them using Unistrut welded to their bases and bolted to the lockers. They maybe available in leather in some of the sporty models, and astras may also use the same seat but I am not sure.Whatb about the recaros that were fitted to some Gs

Actually, I don't think that this is a good idea, given that they were originally very, very expensive.... Far from wanting to make a joke of it "Recaro" means literally in Spanish "Expensive again". Far better would be to buy a good second hand standard MB seat.

Fake Recaro's

A lot of VW, Audi cars have recaro look a likes. Loads to be found in scrappies and I actually find them more comfortable than the real thing.

May be difficult to find a driver’s side where the side bolster has not worn away though. You can, however, swop the seat cushion for a passenger side one.

Suggest that unless you know what you are doing you get a professional to do the welding. Even if the seat belt anchorage points are not attached to the seat you don’t want the seat detaching itself in the even of a collision.
