Hi,

I am a new member just starting the refurb of a 1985 300GD and the seats need recovering. I would like to replace them as original pattern, its a small check. Any ideas where I might be able to source this seat fabric?

Also it will need a respray. The original colour was red.  Should I keep the original colour or would it devalue if I choose a different colour?

Thanks,

Bren

I'd go with the colour on the V5 if you have to paint anyway.  Just be aure that was the original colour.

For the seat fabric, is it the smal check or the later grey wider one?

Post up or PM the VIN / Reg No

And I can give you the proper colour code from factory

Hi,

Many thanks looking at the samples it is the older check the smaller of the two.

Any ideas where I could get enough to do all the seats?

Nice SWB 300GD in classic Carmine Red - Code 3002 as can be seen on the body plate below the VIN plate

It needs a complete respray but don't want to devalue it.

I am in two minds as I believe that red is very postman Pat in colour? I wonder if Merc did any other classic reds that would look better?

What do you think?

Type 'Red 1984 G-wagen' into google and check the image results.  That red looks OK, but there is a later Almandine Red which is quite popular.  Not sure of the paint code.  Try 3521

I think you are right that the V5 wouldn't need to change.

3512 Almandine Red, quite dark and Metallic from memory

Lots of G red shades over the years!
