Just out of interest gents does anyone know of a scale model of the LWB W460 being produced or available ?

If so (I'm sure there are a few about) who is making the absolute best one ?

I want a high quality true detail display model (not a childs corgi toy) I know of companies making some extraordinary models (price being almost same as the real thing) but finding great quality models of the G (especially the W460) is hard !

Where can I get a very very nice one ?

Neil.

Re: Scale Models ?

I know "AutoArt" do a nice one. 1:18 and 1:43

What's the little 1:43 like ? BUT they seem only to do the W463

do they do a W460 and where can I find one ? or is there someone making an even better quality one ?

Re: Scale Models ?

What kind of difference is there between resin and die cast ?

I had always thought the die-cast was the better quality with higher detail ? but I have seen a resin one advertised on ebay which looks good in the photo's but i'm not sure how resin will be in reality ?

(seen some terrific glass models of cars made by both Daum and Lalique but they are expensive and i've never seen a G-Wagon one)

Does this man in germany have a name ? or website ? or did he just randomly pop into your life with a 1:10 g-wagon model for ya ?

Re: Scale Models ?

The latter..... A German friend of a friend made 3 I have one.. Having just read again what your looking for....

I thought you wanted to build an scale Rc G.. I now seen you are after  a scale model.

I also have a few of them I got a nice 460 from Mercedes world, in memory serves I had to order it. Also German eBay they come up every now and then also Italian and canadian eBay are worth keeping an eye on for model stuff..

Hope this helps.

Re: Scale Models ?

Cheers Lenny,

Yes just a static model is what I would like to have. (but not a crappy childs toy)

I wish to find a very high quality one I know of a company called "AMALGAM" but they are stupid money and i could buy the real bloody thing for those prices. Anyhow they don't do a G Wagon (mainly F1 and supercars. I guess for super wallets)

I know that the main 2 media's are Die Cast or Resin. Which is the better quality ? feel appearance etc ? I assume die-cast ?

But have seen some very nice resin ones so now i'm confused.

Re: Scale Models ?

Neil,

I am glad that you are asking this question. I'm interested in the same thing for a SWB 463. I've got a sew of them from older Mustangs and a '66 T-Bird that I owned, and a couple dream cars (Shelby Cobra), but have seen nothing for my new G. I like the Franklin Mint models as quality, and my brother-in-law here in Japan bought me a couple of the Japanese die-cast models that I don't remember the name of offhand.

Re: Scale Models ?

Hello Gary,

Here is one of your 463 swb http://www.ebay.com/itm/1998-Mercedes-Benz-G-Wagon-90s-SWB-in-Black-1-18-Scale-Diecast-AUTOart-76111-/371300580962?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item56733d3e62

There is also a silver one there. They are Die-cast and a pretty neat scale (Should be to include decent detail. 1:12 is better but 1:43 is to tiny and more like a childs toy. 1;18 as this one is should be pretty cool)

Let me know what ya fink ?

Neil.

Re: Scale Models ?

Neil,

I think I bought it, that's what I think. ha.

Thanks for the tip and it'll look great next to the other die-cast models I've got. ;-)

Re: Scale Models ?

Yes, the good ones certainly do. I've got enough now that I may have to consider creating some sort of diorama of them. Could be a fun project. ;-)

Re: Scale Models ?

I am torn between buying the Autoart 1:18 and the Minichamps 1:18

Both models are W463 but both look very nice. one is resin and the other is die cast. which do you think might be the best by way of detail and quality ?

Re: Scale Models ?

Hi lenny,

That is what I have always believed also.

But why is the minichamps resin one so bloody expensive then ?

Re: Scale Models ?

Namebrand, maybe? I'm not familiar with that brand to know if it's that or the quality.
