Hi
Been thinking for a while about having a/c installed on my 88 230 GES.
Has anyone here had experience of doing so or know of companies that undertake such work?
I have been in contact recently with a company willing to carry out this work - Reader air conditioning in Surrey. Does anyone know of their work?

Good forum BTW moderators

Thanks all
David P.

Retrofit 460 a/c systems questions

David,

I would be interested to know the outcome of your findings, as I was thinking similar. I read somewhere else that the best after market AC to install is by an italian company called Diavia .

Kind of pricey though, prices that I have been quoted for so far for the Diavia are around the £1500 mark installed, for genuine facotry AC it is about £3000 - seems easier to buy a G one with it included.

cheers

ps - thanks on the compliment, we are all working very hard to make the forum succesful, though its true success will lie in its users.

Diavia is original equipment for most of European manufacturers and is second to none in terms of quality.

However, I believe that the original equipment for MB is Behr. It would be perhaps advisable to find out how much would it cost to buy the equipment directly from Behr.

Their UK distributor is
Behr GmbH & Co. KG - UK Office
C/o Hella Ltd
Wildmere Industrial Estate,
Banbury,
Oxon

Behr supplies only original air conditioning units exclusively to Original Equipment Manufacturers. The cost of fitting an air conditioning to your vehicle after it has been built without one can be expensive. We suggest that you contact a qualified repair shop to determine the cost and feasibility of this labor intensive process. Expenses may vary in this operation due to the make and model of your vehicle.

A/C

I was quoted for my 463 a couple of years ago by a firm called Mark 4 in Slough. £1700 +VAT 01753 512 747(Bill)

They didn't use MB parts as that would have been 3000+. It is a 3 day job to install in the 463 as the entire centre console needs to be dismantled. I imagine that the 460 would be simpler.

One of the guys in the club got caversham to do it and was pleased, dont know the cost.

I couldn't justify the cost for the UK

Thanks guys. Interesting. I'll look into that. I agree cost is probably not justified for UK Summers, but I want to be able to use it in Spain during Summer and avoid horrendous hire car charges That's the plan anyway.
All the Best
